A piston is a block that pushes other blocks if a red stone is activated. Pistons can push most blocks depending on how they are positioned. The sticky piston can even pull on blocks. Pistons are easy to make and you will learn more in this article.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Making a regular piston
Step 1. Find all the materials you need
- Find the cobblestones. Get ordinary stones to turn them into cobblestones, or get cobblestones.
- Take the red stone. You can mine such a stone underground.
- Take one iron ingot. You can mine it by finding iron ore underground and melting it.
- Take three wooden planks. Chop down a tree, place a piece of wood on a workbench to make four planks. You will need three planks for the piston.
Step 2. Place all materials in the crafting grid according to the piston creation scheme (see
below).
- Place three boards in the top three slots of the grid.
- Place the iron in the middle of the mesh.
- Place the red stone under the iron.
- Place the cobblestones in the remaining space.
Step 3. Make the piston
When finished, press shift and select an item, or drag and drop it into your inventory.
Method 2 of 4: Making a sticky piston
Sticky pistons can push and pull other blocks. Conventional pistons only push. Accordingly, sticky pistons are more practical. However, two conventional pistons can push back and forth.
Step 1. Make the piston as described above
Step 2. Find the slimball
You can find it by killing the slime. You can find slimes underground. After killing a slime, you can get a green slimeball out of it.
Step 3. Place the piston and slideball in the crafting grid as follows
- Place the slimeball in the middle slot.
- Place the plunger under it.
Step 4. Make a sticky plunger
When finished, press shift and select an item, or drag and drop it into your inventory.
Method 3 of 4: Turn on the pistons
Step 1. Add a red stone to the piston and it will open
He will start pushing the blocks that are next to him. If it is a sticky piston, then it will be able to attract blocks.
- The redstone trail should lead directly to the piston. If it is not enough, then the piston will not work. You may need to curve the redstone trail to activate the piston.

Advice
- Not all blocks can be pushed or pulled by the piston. For example, anvils are too heavy. Also, you will not be able to move Nether portals, end portals, obsidian and bedrock. Pistons cannot push lava or water, but they can obstruct other blocks.
- The pistons can move a chain of 12 blocks, but this is a very long chain.
- Some things will turn into something else if you push them. For example, cactus, pumpkin, dragon egg, sugarcane and lamp-pumpkin will turn into drops when pushed. You can take them back by walking through them. The melons will split into pieces, giving the hero the option to eat them (you cannot eat a whole melon). The webs become ropes that you can use for fishing or bowing.
