Want to take your Mario Kart Wii to the next level? Successfully completed tricks during the race will give you a quick speed boost, allowing you to rush past your rivals. In sports games like Mario Kart, a few centimeters can be decisive, so learn how to do tricks on the ground and in the air to get the edge you need to win!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Doing tricks in the air
Using WiiMote
These instructions are for use with the Wiimote + Nunchuck and WiiMote + steering wheel.

Step 1. Look for an opportunity to take off
In Mario Kart Wii, you can't do tricks anywhere. For aerial stunts, in order to get off the ground, you first need to drive onto some kind of inclined surface, for example, a ramp. Typically, there are many opportunities on each track to earn some time in the air.
- Accelerating ramps that glow with the colors of the rainbow are the most visible places to perform stunts. On any of them, you will have the opportunity to do a trick. On some tracks, such as Coconut Alley, you simply won't be able to drive past one of them.
- That said, even tiny bumps on the track that get you off the ground for a second or so can give you a chance to do a trick, so stay alert!

Step 2. Shake the WiiMote as soon as you get off the ground to do the trick
Shake the WiiMote or jerk it in any direction when driving off a ramp or bouncing. Do this lightly so that the controller registers the action, but not too hard, or you may lose control after landing. If you time it right, then do the trick! You will feel the controller vibrate, a beep will sound and your rider will come to life.
When you shake the WiiMote in different directions (up, down, left, or right), you should have different tricks. However, the speed gain will be the same anyway

Step 3. Do not lose control after landing
If you do the trick safely before landing (in other words, until you get hit by a projectile and so on), you will get a quick, small increase in speed - something like a "mini mushroom".
Be careful not to lose control with this boost. While this increase makes it easier to outflank opponents, it also becomes a little harder to react and dodge obstacles in time

Step 4. Combine many tricks together so you don't lose speed
You can only perform one trick in a jump, so make sure you get as much of the jump out of that jump as possible. However, if you can do several jumps in a row, performing tricks each time, then you will get a significant increase in speed. Doing a lot of tricks in a row without losing control and getting off the track can be very difficult, so keep practicing! Once you master this skill, you will have a big advantage over serious opponents.
Using a traditional controller
These instructions are for use with Wii Classic and GameCube controllers.

Step 1. Drive onto the ramp or jump
Performing tricks on a non-WiiMote controller is a little different - some players even find it easier. First, take the jump (just as if you were using the WiiMote).

Step 2. Use the navigation keys on your controller when you are in the air
There is no motion sensor on the GameCube and Classic controllers, so you don't need to shake them, but press one of the four gamepad buttons to do the trick. The navigation keys are usually cross-shaped and are located on the left side of the controller - this joystick cannot be steered.
Note that on the Classic and Gamecube controller, the control buttons are in different places. On the Classic controller, they are on the top left on the joystick used for control, while on the GameCube controller, they are on the bottom

Step 3. Land flawlessly
Again, if you do the trick correctly, a beep will sound and your character will come to life. When you land safely, you get a small speed boost.
As with the WiiMote, pressing different directions on the controller buttons produces different tricks. However, any of them give the same speed boost when you land
Method 2 of 2: How to Rear Up
Using WiiMote
These instructions are for use with the Wiimote + Nunchuck and WiiMote + steering wheel.

Step 1. Choose a bike before the race
In addition to tricks that can be performed in the air, you can also gain a speed boost on the ground by rearing up. However, this feature is only available for motorcycles - you can't stand on your hind legs on four-wheeled karts.

Step 2. Raise the controller while at cruising speed
To rears up, firstly, you need to get under way and pick up a decent speed. When you are on a straight stretch of road, lift the controller. The front wheel of the motorcycle should be off the ground.
- When you rears up, you will immediately notice that you have started to move a little faster at your maximum speed.
- Keep the handlebars level (if you are using one) when you lift it to avoid accidentally losing control.

Step 3. Lower the controller down to stand on both wheels
If you want to go down on two wheels and get back to normal riding, then lower your controller. The front wheel of the motorcycle should drop to the ground and you will be returned to normal controls.

Step 4. Rear up on straight sections
While rearing up, you will notice that the management has changed a lot. You can only stick to your direction of travel, so even small turns can be tricky. For this reason, it is best to stand on your hind legs on those sections of the track where you do not have to maneuver too often. Long, straight sections of track are best.
Also, rearing up, you need to be careful in relation to other riders who surround you. If another rider crashes into you while one wheel is off the ground, you will lose control and your speed will drop sharply
Using a regular controller
These instructions are for use with Wii Classic and GameCube controllers.

Step 1. Accelerate to cruising speed
As with aerial stunts, the way you reel with the WiiMote controller is slightly different from the way you don't. Start accelerating as usual until you reach maximum speed.

Step 2. Press the up button on your controller to rears up
When you're ready to rears up, press the top button on your controller (the same X-shaped key that you used to do tricks in the air). Your rider should rears up.

Step 3. Press the down button on your controller to lower down on both wheels
When you're ready to drop down on both wheels, press the bottom button on your controller. Your rider will lower the front wheel of the motorcycle and you can return to normal control again.
Advice
- Remember to look ahead to avoid bumping into obstacles while accelerating.
- Look for halfpipes (pipes with ramps on either side of the track) and ramps (ramps on one side of the track) to hone your skills by performing aerial stunts. You will find many of these structures on the "DK Mountain" track.
- In order to perform aerial stunts, it is not necessary to move off the marked ramp. For example, try performing tricks while jumping from mushroom to mushroom in Mushroom Gorge.
