The PS2 game console is a very popular device on which you can play a huge number of games. However, this console's memory card fills up pretty quickly, so every avid gamer should know how to delete data from a memory card.
Steps
Part 1 of 2: Deleting Data from a Memory Card
Step 1. Before turning on the set-top box, open the optical drive and remove the disc
Click on the button with the blue triangle pointing down and resting on a horizontal line. The optical drive door opens. The image on the screen will freeze - this is normal. Remove the disc carefully. Even if you hear a click, consider that everything is in order. Close the optical drive door by hand.
Insert the memory card into slot 1 / A (Slot 1 / A) and make sure to do it correctly. The indicated slot is located on the left panel of the set-top box, directly above the connector for a gamepad
Step 2. Turn on the set-top box
Connect your PS2 to an electrical outlet and to your TV. Make sure to connect all required cables. The power button, located on the front of the console, will glow red. Click on this button and it will turn green.
- Press the “Source” or “Input” button on the TV remote control until you find the signal from the TV connector to which the game console is connected (the image from the console should be displayed on the TV screen).
- If the console has a game, the game menu will appear on the screen.
Step 3. From the PS2 main menu, select "Browser"
To do this, highlight (in blue) the appropriate option and click on the blue "X" button located on the right side of the gamepad.
Step 4. Select the memory card and press the "X" button
A gray background will appear on the screen, which means that you are in an explorer window. If you have inserted the memory card correctly, it will appear on the screen as a small rectangle.
- When you select a memory card, its contents will be displayed. This will take some time (depending on the amount of information stored on the card). The data written to the card will be displayed line by line.
- Skip this step if the STB recognizes the card.
Step 5. Find the data you want to delete and click the "X" button
Use the arrow buttons on the left side of the controller to highlight the data to be deleted. Look for the data to be deleted by the logo, theme and name of the game.
- Each data item is provided with a picture representing the corresponding game or parameters (for example, the data picture for a Final Fantasy game shows a Chocobo, and the data picture for Soul Calibur shows the logo of that game).
- If the data picture is a 3D rendering of the corresponding game, this means that the save (saves) of this game are stored on the memory card. When white light falls on the rendering, the corresponding data item is highlighted.
- Keep in mind that if the item is marked with the name of the game, and the picture looks like a blue cube, then the data is corrupted - such data cannot be moved or deleted.
Step 6. Use the arrow buttons on your controller to highlight items and select “Delete”
Highlighting the data to be deleted will display a picture with two options: “Copy” and “Delete”. Make sure to highlight the data you want to delete, because you will not be able to recover deleted data. The message “Confirm / Are you sure” may appear on the screen; if you have indeed selected unnecessary files, click “Yes” in the window with this message.
Click the "X" button. The data will be deleted. If you change your mind to delete data, instead of the "X" button, press the "O" button
Step 7. Close the explorer
To do this, click on the button with the triangle. Read the information in the footnote. The data has been deleted and space has been freed up on the memory card.
Part 2 of 2: Troubleshoot memory card problems
Step 1. Remove dust and check if the connection is correct
If the memory card is not displayed in the explorer, remove the dust from the card and reinsert it into the console. Also make sure that all required wires are securely connected to the set-top box and to the TV.
Step 2. Insert the memory card into slot 2 / B (Slot 2 / B)
If the STB does not recognize the memory card within 60 seconds (from the moment the card was inserted), or if the message “Loading” is displayed on the screen and nothing else happens, try inserting the memory card into the second slot, and then follow the steps described in this article. actions.
Step 3. Make sure your memory card is compatible with PS2
Some third party cards don't work on PS2.
Step 4. Recover the memory card
If the system does not recognize the memory card in either the first or the second slot, then the problem lies with the card itself. In this case, take the memory card to a workshop - it may be possible to recover the card.
Step 5. Repair or replace the attachment
Take your console to a workshop to see if it needs repair. If your PS2 cannot be repaired, buy a new console or replace the broken console with another one.

Warnings
- Before deleting data from a memory card, do not insert a disc with a game into the console, as in this case, the console will work with the disc, and not with the memory card.
