The Xbox 360 Wireless Controller lets you play your favorite video games from anywhere in the room, or even outside. First, of course, you need to install it. We will tell you how to do this.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Connect to Xbox 360
Step 1. Turn on your console and controller
To turn on the controller, hold down the Guide button. The button is located in the center of the device with the Xbox logo painted on it.
Step 2. Press the connect button on the console
On the original Xbox 360, this button is located next to the memory card. On a 360 S set-top box, it is located next to the USB ports. On a 360 E set-top box, it is located next to the front panel.
Step 3. Press the connect button on the wireless controller
It's on the top panel, next to the port. After you press the connect button on the console, you have 20 seconds to press it on the controller.
Step 4. Wait for the lights on the controller and console to sync
If everything went well, the controller was successfully connected to the set-top box. Now you can use it.
Method 2 of 2: Connecting to a Computer
Step 1: Buy an Xbox 360 Wireless USB Receiver
In order to connect the wireless controller to the computer, you need to install the receiver. Microsoft drivers are best suited for this.
Step 2. Connect the wireless receiver
On Windows 7 and 8, the drivers will be installed automatically. If not, install them from the supplied CD. Receivers from Microsoft should install automatically, but if your receiver was not released by that company, do the following:
- Download the latest drivers for your Xbox 360 controller from Microsoft.
- Install the drivers.
- Open Device Manager. It can be opened from Control Panel, or by pressing Windows Key + X on your keyboard in Windows 8.
- Find Unknown device or “Other devices”. Right click.
- Click on the Update driver option.
- Select “Specify the path to the driver on the computer”.
- Click “Select Manually”.
- Find the “Xbox 360 Peripherals” option in the device selection menu.
- Select the newer version of the controller, for example “Xbox 360 Controller for Windows”.
Step 3. Press the Connect button on the receiver and then the Connect button on the Xbox 360 wireless controller
Step 4. Press and hold the Guide button on the controller
This button is in the center of the device and has the Xbox logo on it. When the controller is successfully connected, the green light on both the receiver and the controller will light up.
Step 5. Configure the controller
It can only be used in certain games. It is customizable in every game. You may need to download the Xpadder program in order to assign the buttons.
