How to search Google by image

This article will teach you how to search for images by an image you already have using the Google search engine. To do this, you can use Google's image search function and upload an image from your computer to the search engine that you want to search for on the web. Alternatively, you can use the special features of the Google Chrome browser, both on mobile devices and on your desktop, to find similar images online.

Method 1 of 3: Using Google Search on Your Desktop Computer

Step 1. Open the Google Images page

Step 2. Click the button

This camera button is located to the right of the search bar in the center of the page.

If you need to find images that match a specific word or phrase, simply enter that word or phrase into the search bar and press ↵ Enter to view the search results

Step 3. Select the option to download an image for search

Choose one of the two tabs offered to you to download the image.

• Tab "Specify link" allows you to use a previously copied link to an image on the network. To copy a link to a specific image from the web, open that image in a separate browser tab and copy the link to it from the address bar at the top by pressing Ctrl + C (on Windows) or ⌘ Command + C (on Mac).
• Tab "Upload file" allows you to upload an image that is stored on your computer to a search engine.

Step 4. Upload the image

This step will vary slightly depending on the download option you choose.

• If you selected the tab "Specify link", place the cursor in the search bar and paste the desired link there by pressing Ctrl + V (in Windows) or ⌘ Command + V (in Mac), and then click on the button "Search by picture".

• If you selected the tab "Upload file", click on the button "Select a file", find and select the image you want to use for search, and then click on the button "Open".

  

  Step 5. Review the search results

  If your image appears anywhere on the Internet, you will see it in different sizes and versions in search results. Otherwise, Google will show you images similar to the one you uploaded.

  Method 2 of 3: Using the Google Chrome Browser on Mobile Devices

  

  Step 1. Launch Google Chrome

  Click on the Chrome app icon, which is a combination of red, yellow, blue, and green.

  

  Step 2. Go to the search bar

  It is located at the very top of the screen.

  • If you don't see the search bar, start by clicking on the plus (“+”) in the upper left corner of the screen.

  

  Step 3. Enter your search term

  Enter the word or phrase for which you want to search for an image, and then click "Enter" (on iPhone) either "Enter" or “✓” (on Android).

  

  Step 4. Click on the PICTURES tab

  It is located at the top of the screen, directly below the search bar. On the page that opens, all the images found by your request will be displayed for you.

  

  Step 5. Select an image to use for search

  Click on the image you want to base your search on. After that, the image will open.

  

  Step 6. Click on the ellipsis ⋮ below the image

  As a result of this action, a pop-up menu will open in front of you.

  • Do not click on the ellipsis (“⋮”) in the upper right corner of the screen.

  

  Step 7. Select Search by Image from the menu

  This line is in the middle of the pop-up menu options list.

  

  Step 8. Review the search results

  You will be presented with a list of matching (or similar) images.

  Method 3 of 3: Using the Google Chrome Browser on a Desktop Computer

  

  Step 1. Launch Google Chrome

  The shortcut for this browser is represented by a sphere icon that combines red, yellow, blue and green colors.

  

  Step 2. Go to the address bar

  It is located at the very top of the Chrome browser window. This action will also highlight the contents of the address bar.

  

  Step 3. Enter your search term

  Enter the word or phrase for which you want to search for images and press ↵ Enter.

  

  Step 4. Go to the Pictures tab

  It is located just below the search bar at the top of the page. As a result of this action, the pictures found by your request will be displayed for you.

  • If you don't see the tab "Pictures", click on the button "Yet"near the end of the row of tabs, and then select "Pictures" from the drop-down list of options.

  

  Step 5. Select an image to search

  Click on the image you want to base your search on. This image will open.

  

  Step 6. Click Search by Image

  This button will be represented by an appropriately named link located directly below the image title in the gray panel on the right.

  

  Step 7. Review the search results

  On the page that opens, you will see a list of matching (or similar) images.
