In this article, we'll walk you through how to change the name that appears when sending Gmail emails. This can be done on a computer and a mobile device. Remember, you can change your name no more than three times every 90 days, and you cannot change your email address.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: On the computer

Step 1. Open Gmail
Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in your computer's web browser. Your Gmail inbox will open if you're already signed in.
If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address and password

Step 2. Click on the gear icon

It's on the top-right side of your Gmail inbox. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click on Settings
This option is on the menu. The settings page will open.

Step 4. Click Accounts & Import
You will find this tab at the top of the page.

Step 5. Click change
It's on the right side of the Send Emails As section. A menu will open.

Step 6. Check the box next to the empty text box
This field is below the line with your current name.

Step 7. Enter a new name
Do it in an empty text box.

Step 8. Click Save Changes
This button is at the bottom of the window. The name is saved and the window closes.
Method 2 of 2: On a mobile device

Step 1. Launch Gmail
Click on the white icon with a red "M".
If you are not logged in yet, enter your email address and password

Step 2. Tap ☰
This icon is in the upper left corner of the screen. A menu will open.

Step 3. Scroll down and tap Settings
You will find this option at the bottom of the menu.

Step 4. Select your account
Click on the email address of the account you want to change the name for.

Step 5. Click Manage Google Account
It's near the top of the menu.
On your Android device, tap My Account

Step 6. Tap Personal information and privacy
You will find this option at the top of the page.
On an Android device, tap Personal Information at the top of the screen

Step 7. Tap the current name
It's in the Name text box at the top of the page.

Step 8. Enter your Google account password
Then click Next.

Step 9. Click on the "Change" icon

This pencil-shaped icon is to the right of your name. A menu will open.

Step 10. Enter a new name
Do this on the "First Name" and / or "Last Name" lines.

Step 11. Click Finish
It's at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Step 12. Tap Confirm
This will confirm that you want to change your name and know that you can do it twice more within 90 days.
Advice
- When you create a Google account, you need to enter both first and last name, but to change the first name, you do not need the last name.
- It may take up to 24 hours for the new name to take effect.
