This article will show you how to disable JavaScript in your web browser. JavaScript is responsible for loading dynamic content on web pages, so disabling it will speed up website loading. In most web browsers and their mobile versions, JavaScript can be disabled in the browser settings; however, JavaScript is not disabled in Google Chrome and Firefox for iPhone, or Microsoft Edge.
Steps
Method 1 of 7: Google Chrome (on a computer)

Step 1. Launch Google Chrome

Click on the red-yellow-green-blue ball icon.

Step 2. Push ⋮
This symbol is in the upper right corner of the page. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click Settings
It's in the drop-down menu. The Chrome settings page will open.

Step 4. Scroll down and click Advanced ▼
This option is at the very bottom of the page.

Step 5. Scroll down and click Site Settings
You will find this option at the bottom of the Privacy & Security section.

Step 6. Click JavaScript
It's in the middle of the page.

Step 7. Click on the blue slider next to "Allowed (Recommended)"

It's at the top right of the page. The slider turns gray

- this means JavaScript is disabled.
If the slider is gray and displays "Blocked" next to it, JavaScript is already disabled
Method 2 of 7: Google Chrome (on an Android device)

Step 1. Launch Google Chrome

Click on the red-yellow-green-blue ball icon.
You won't be able to disable JavaScript in Chrome for iPhone / iPad

Step 2. Push ⋮
This symbol is in the upper right corner of the screen. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click Settings
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Scroll down and click Site Settings
You will find this option at the bottom of the Chrome settings menu.

Step 5. Tap JavaScript
It's in the middle of the page.

Step 6. Tap the blue JavaScript slider

The switch turns gray

- this means JavaScript is disabled.
- If the slider is gray, JavaScript is already disabled in Chrome for Android.
- If you update Google Chrome, you may need to disable JavaScript again.
Method 3 of 7: Safari (computer)

Step 1. Launch Safari
Click on the blue compass icon in the dock.

Step 2. Click Safari
It's in the upper left corner of the screen. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click on Settings
This option is on the menu. The settings window will open.

Step 4. Go to the Protection tab
You will find it at the top of the window.

Step 5. Uncheck the "Enable JavaScript" box
It's next to the Web Content heading in the middle of the window. JavaScript will be disabled.
If the checkbox is not present, JavaScript is already disabled
Method 4 of 7: Safari (on iPhone)

Step 1. Launch the Settings app

Click the gear-shaped icon on the gray background.

Step 2. Scroll down and click Safari
You will find this option in the middle of the settings page.

Step 3. Scroll down and tap Advanced
It's at the bottom of the page.

Step 4. Tap the green JavaScript slider

The slider turns white

- This means that the Safari browser on the iPhone will no longer load JavaScript content.
- If the slider is white, JavaScript is already disabled.
- If you update your iPhone, you may need to turn off JavaScript again.
Method 5 of 7: Firefox (desktop)

Step 1. Start Firefox
Click on the orange fox icon on the blue ball.

Step 2. Click on the address bar
This long text box is at the top of the Firefox window.
If there is text in the address bar, remove it

Step 3. Go to the configuration page
Type about: config and press ↵ Enter.

Step 4. Click I accept the risk
when prompted.
This blue button is in the center of the page.

Step 5. Click on the "Search" text box
You will find it at the top of the page.

Step 6. Find the JavaScript option
Enter javascript and then find the "javascript.enabled" option at the top of the page.

Step 7. Double click on the "javascript.enabled" parameter
It's at the top of the search results list. The parameter value will change to "false" - this means that JavaScript is disabled.
If the "Value" column to the right of the specified parameter displays "false" instead of "true", JavaScript is already disabled
Method 6 of 7: Firefox (on an Android device)

Step 1. Start Firefox
Click on the orange fox icon on the blue ball.
You won't be able to disable JavaScript in Firefox for iPhone / iPad

Step 2. Tap the address bar
It's at the top of the screen. The on-screen keyboard of the Android device opens.
If there is text in the address bar, remove it

Step 3. Go to the configuration page
Enter about: config and click Search on the onscreen keyboard.

Step 4. Tap the Search text box
It's in the upper right corner of the configuration page.

Step 5. Find the JavaScript option
Enter javascript and then find the "javascript.enabled" option at the top of the page.

Step 6. Tap on the "javascript.enabled" option
It's at the top of the page. A Toggle button appears on the right side of the page.
If "false" is displayed under the "javascript.enabled" option, JavaScript is already disabled

Step 7. Tap Switch
It's in the lower-right side of the javascript.enabled window. The parameter value will change to "false" - this means that JavaScript is disabled.
If you update Firefox, you may need to disable JavaScript again
Method 7 of 7: Internet Explorer

Step 1. Launch Internet Explorer
Click the blue e with a gold stripe.

Step 2. Click "Settings"

This icon is in the upper-right corner of the Internet Explorer window. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click on Internet Options
This option is on the menu. The Internet Options window will open.

Step 4. Go to the Security tab
It's at the top of the Internet Options window.

Step 5. Click on Custom Level
This option is near the bottom of the page. A new window will open.

Step 6. Scroll down to the Scripts section
It's at the bottom of the popup.

Step 7. Check the box next to "Disable" in the "Active Scripting" section
This means that you want to disable JavaScript in Internet Explorer.

Step 8. Click Yes when prompted
This will confirm your decision.

Step 9. Click on OK
This button is at the bottom of the window. JavaScript will be disabled.
