A torrent is a file that is stored on multiple computers, not on a server. Files are transferred from uploading users (they are called seeds) to downloading users (they are called leechers or peers). Download μTorrent and use it to download movies, music and games. Please note that downloading (or giving away) copyrighted content is illegal in many countries.
Steps
Step 1. Download μTorrent software from www.utorrent.com
This program supports different operating systems, so download the Mac OS X version. Specify a folder for the installation file (for example, a desktop or a download folder).
- When the installation file is downloaded, click on the uTorrent.dmg file to unzip the program.
- Drag μTorrent to the Applications folder.
Step 2. Start μTorrent
To do this, double-click on the program icon. It will launch, but you will have to find the torrent file on the Internet.
During the installation process, uTorrent will try to install several unnecessary programs, including the toolbar. Therefore, read the agreement on the use of the program and uncheck the boxes of unnecessary programs
Step 3. Open a trusted torrent tracker and find the content you want
To do this, enter the name of the movie / song / game / book in the search bar. Narrow down your search query; otherwise, random results will be found.
- For example, if you enter "football match" in the search bar, you will get a lot of results, some of which will probably be superfluous; so try to refine your query and enter something like “football match Spartak Dynamo”.
- If you don't know any torrent tracker, enter the name of the movie / game / song / book in the search engine, and then enter the word "torrent" (hereinafter without quotes). You can also enter "Mac OS".
Step 4. Browse the list of available torrents
Pay attention to the first search results. Choose one of them based on the file size (larger files take longer to download, but they are of better quality) and the file type (avi, mkv, mp4, and so on).
- If you are unsure of which torrent to choose, go with the seeding with the most seeds.
- Click on the file and view the comments section. Read what users have to say about the file: does it work, is it of good quality, is it free of viruses, and so on. If there are no comments, do not download such a file.
Step 5. Download the torrent
To do this, click on the magnet-shaped icon or on the "Download torrent" link. Do not click on "Direct Download", "Download" or "Download Magnetic Link" links to avoid pop-ups and redirects to other sites.
- In the process of downloading a torrent, you will begin to distribute fragments of it that have already been downloaded to your computer.
- When the download process is complete, you will still be uploading the file over the peer-to-peer network. Seeding will be interrupted if you delete the file from uTorrent or close uTorrent.
Step 6. Wait for the file to download completely
The link / file will automatically open in μTorrent (if the system asks for a program, set μTorrent as the default program). Also, a second μTorrent window will open, in which click "OK" (in the lower right corner).
- The download duration depends on the file size and the number of seeds (users who are uploading the file).
- The more seeds there are, the faster the file will download, because the program will download fragments of the file.
Step 7. Click on the Completed tab to locate the downloaded file
To open a file, right-click on a file in the Finder and choose Open, or click the magnifying glass icon.
If you've downloaded a movie, right-click on it and click Open With, then select the media player you want
Advice
- Always check the number of seeds and leechers. The more seeds there are, the faster the file will download. The more leechers, the slower the file downloads.
- Make sure that the distribution is organized by a trusted user. As a rule, next to the name of such a user there are icons in the form of a purple / green skull, yellow stars, and the like.
