How to use Discord on a computer

In this article, we'll show you how to use Discord on a Windows or macOS computer.

Steps

Part 1 of 6: How to Sign Up on Discord

Step 1. Go to

Do this in any web browser like Safari or Opera.

If you want, install the Discord program (its interface is similar to the design of the Discord website); to do this, click "Download" and follow the instructions on the screen

Step 2. Click Login

You will find this option in the upper right corner.

Step 3. Click Register

This option is next to "Need an account?"

Step 4. Enter your personal information

Enter your email address, unique username, and strong password.

Step 5. Click Continue

Step 6. Check the box next to “I'm not a robot”

Discord will send an email to your email address.

Step 7. Click Skip or Start

If this is your first time using Discord, we recommend reading the Discord information. Otherwise, skip the informational material and go straight to the Discord page.

Part 2 of 6: How to Connect to the Server

Step 1. Find the server

To do this, you need to use a special invitation link. You can get an invitation from a friend, as well as at https://discordlist.net or

Step 2. Click on the invitation link

You can also copy the link to the clipboard and then paste it into the address bar of your web browser by pressing Ctrl + V or ⌘ Cmd + V.

Step 3. Enter your username and tag

This is how you will be identified on the server and in chats.

Step 4. Click Continue

You will connect to the server. Click on a channel to view its content and start chatting.

Part 3 of 6: How to Add a Friend by Username

Step 1. Click on "Friends"

This option is marked with a human silhouette icon in the upper left corner.

Step 2. Click on Add as Friend

Step 3. Enter the username and tag

Check with a friend for this information. It should look like.

The username is case sensitive, so type in capital letters if needed

Step 4. Click Send Friendship Request

If the request was sent successfully, a green message will appear; otherwise, a red error message is displayed.

Part 4 of 6: How to add a friend to your channel

Step 1. Select a server

Servers are listed in the left pane.

Step 2. Click on a channel

A list of channel users will open.

Step 3. Right-click on the username you want to befriend

Step 4. Click Profile

Step 5. Click Send Friendship Request

When the user accepts the request, they will be added to your friends list.

Part 5 of 6: How to Send Messages

Step 1. Click on "Friends"

This option is marked with a human silhouette icon in the upper left corner.

Step 2. Click on All

A list of all your friends will open.

Step 3. Tap on your friend's name

A chat with this friend will open.

Step 4. Enter your message in the field

It's at the bottom of the chat.

Step 5. Press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return.

The message will appear in the chat.

To delete a sent message, hover over it, click ⁝ in the upper-right corner of the message, and then click Delete> Delete

Part 6 of 6: How to Use Voice Channels

Step 1. Select a server

Servers are listed in the left pane. The channel list will open.

Step 2. Select a channel in the "Voice Channels" section

Step 3. Give Discord access to your microphone

Do this if this is your first time using a microphone on Discord. To do this, click "OK" or "Accept".

• When you connect to a voice channel, a green “Voice connected” message appears at the bottom of the screen.
• If your speakers are on and your users are actively communicating, you will immediately hear the conversation - if you want, join it.
• To disconnect from the voice channel, click on the handset and X; this icon is in the lower-left corner of the screen.
