In this article, we'll show you how to search for people on Snapchat and add them to your contact list.
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Using your smartphone's address book

Step 1. Launch Snapchat
Click on the icon in the form of a white ghost on a yellow background. Typically, you can find it on one of the desktops or in the app drawer.
If you're not already signed in to Snapchat, click Sign In and then enter your username (or email address) and password

Step 2. Swipe down on the screen with the camera turned on
You will be taken to your profile page.

Step 3. Tap My Friends
You will find this option at the bottom of your profile page.

Step 4. Click Contacts
This tab is in the upper-right side of the screen.
- If Snapchat doesn't have access to your smartphone contacts, you won't be able to add contacts from your address book.
- If you haven't already added your phone number to your Snapchat account, do so when prompted.

Step 5. Navigate to the desired contact
They must be sorted alphabetically.
To speed up your search, enter the contact's name in the Search bar at the top of the screen

Step 6. Click Add
It's to the right of the contact's name. Any contact can be added this way.
- Contacts that have already been added to Snapchat will not appear on this page.
- If the contact you want is not using Snapchat, an "Invite" option will appear to the right of the contact's name.

Step 7. Make sure the contact is added to your friends list
Tap Friends at the top of the screen (to the left of Contacts) and find the name in your friends list.
- To speed up the search for the added person, enter a name in the Search bar at the top of the screen.
- The person you have added as friends must also add you to their friends list in order to be able to view your snaps.
Part 2 of 4: Using your username

Step 1. Launch Snapchat
Click on the icon in the form of a white ghost on a yellow background. Typically, you can find it on one of the desktops or in the app drawer.
If you're not already signed in to Snapchat, click Sign In, then enter your username (or email address) and password

Step 2. Swipe down on the screen with the camera turned on
You will be taken to your profile page.

Step 3. Tap Add Friends
This is the second option on your profile page.

Step 4. Click Add by Username
In the "Add Username" section, a search bar appears at the top of the page.
In the list below the search bar, you will find your username and public name

Step 5. Enter the username you are looking for in the search bar
Enter the name without mistakes.
The name of the corresponding user appears below the search bar

Step 6. Tap Add
You will find this option to the right of the username. He or she will be added to your friends list.
The person you have added as friends must also add you to their friends list in order to be able to view your snaps
Part 3 of 4: Using a Snapcode

Step 1. Launch Snapchat
Click on the icon in the form of a white ghost on a yellow background. Typically, you can find it on one of the desktops or in the app drawer.
- If you're not already signed in to Snapchat, click Sign In and then enter your username (or email address) and password.
- Your friend needs to be running Snapchat too if you add them personally.

Step 2. Swipe down on your friend's smartphone screen
The friend's profile page will open, which will display an individual snapcode (yellow rectangle with a ghost).
Skip this step if you are scanning a Snapcode from a web page or sheet of paper

Step 3. Point your smartphone camera at the snapcode
Make your friend's snapcode fully displayed on your screen.
If the camera fails to focus on the snapcode, tap the screen to refocus the camera

Step 4. Press and hold the snapcode that appears on your screen
In a moment, a window with a snapcode will open.

Step 5. Tap Add Friend
The person whose snapshot you scanned will be added to your friends list.
You can also add a friend using a snapcode, which is stored in the memory of your smartphone. To do this, tap "Add friends" on the profile page, tap "By snapcode" and tap the snapcode in the corresponding photo album
Part 4 of 4: Using Add Nearby

Step 1. Launch Snapchat
Click on the icon in the form of a white ghost on a yellow background. Typically, you can find it on one of the desktops or in the app drawer.
If you're not already signed in to Snapchat, click Sign In and then enter your username (or email address) and password

Step 2. Swipe down on the screen with the camera turned on
You will be taken to your profile page.

Step 3. Tap Add Friends
This is the second option on your profile page.

Step 4. Click Add next
This fourth option is at the top of the screen.
- If a message appears telling you to enable location services, click OK.
- The Add Nearby feature does not work if you and the person you want to add to your friends list are far away from each other.

Step 5. Ask a friend to activate the Add Nearby feature on their smartphone
This function can only be used if it is activated on both smartphones.
When the specified function is enabled, the screen will display a list of all users on whose smartphones it is activated

Step 6. Tap Add
You will find this option to the right of the username you want to add as a friend.
- To add more than one person as a friend, simply tap "Add" next to each username.
- The word "Added" appears to the right of the names of people who are already on your friends list.
