Knowing the model number of your Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop can be helpful if you are going to contact support, want to buy compatible accessories and software, or need replacement parts. You can find the model number in Windows, in the BIOS of your computer, or on the product label.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Find your model number in Windows

Step 1. Press the “Fn” and “Esc” buttons at the same time on an HP laptop with Windows installed
The HP System Information Utility window appears.

Step 2. Write down the series of characters displayed to the right of the “Product number” label

Step 3. Click the “OK” button to close the window and exit the utility

Step 4. Press the “Windows” and “Q” buttons at the same time
Enter “HP” in the search box.
If you are using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, click the Start button and type “HP” in the search box

Step 5. Select “HP Support Assistant” from the list of search results
A window of this program will open.

Step 6. Find and write down the product number at the bottom of the HP Support Assistant window (this is the product model number)
You can now use this number to get the support you need.
Method 2 of 3: Finding the model number in the BIOS

Step 1. Turn on your HP laptop

Step 2. Immediately start pressing the “Esc” button frequently while the computer boots up
The Windows boot menu will appear on the screen.

Step 3. Press “F1” on your keyboard or select “System Information”

Step 4. Make a note of the information next to “Notebook Model” and “Product Number”
You can now use this information to get support.
Method 3 of 3: Find the model number on the device information sticker

Step 1. Make sure the HP laptop is turned off
You may need to open the battery compartment to locate the model number sticker.

Step 2. Look for the device information sticker on your laptop
In most cases, this sticker is adhered to the underside of your HP notebook.
If you cannot see stickers on the underside of the laptop, open the laptop battery compartment or remove the back cover

Step 3. Make a note of the product and model numbers found on the sticker
You can now contact HP support with these numbers.
