Random access memory (RAM) is used by active programs, so you can increase the performance of your computer by increasing your RAM.
Steps

Step 1. Determine the type of RAM you need
This can be done through the system utility or simply by opening the computer case. You also need to find out the maximum amount of RAM supported by your motherboard (in the instructions or on the Internet). RAM types include DDR, DDR2, DDR3.

Step 2. Locate the RAM connectors
To do this, remove the side panel of the computer case and look for long, narrow, rectangular connectors in yellow, red, blue, black, or orange with special white latches at the ends. Such connectors are located parallel to each other and there can be 6, 4, 3 or 2 of them (depending on the motherboard).

Step 3. To connect the modules to the slots, lower the latches and insert the module into the slot
Pay attention to the notch in the RAM module, which should line up with the notch in the socket on the motherboard (this is done in order to prevent incorrect installation of the memory module). Press down on the module so that it fits snugly into the slot, and the latches close by themselves (if they do not close, you installed the module incorrectly, or the wrong memory type was selected). Step 4. Close the computer case and connect the necessary cables to it.
Turn on your computer. Some motherboard models will notify you when the RAM size has changed, and you will have to press a key to continue working, for example F1 or another depending on your motherboard.
Advice
- Disconnect all cables (especially the power cable) from the computer before opening the case.
- Touch the metal chassis of the computer to discharge any static electricity.
- If the computer beeps when you turn it on and nothing appears on the screen, you have installed the memory modules incorrectly. Reinstall them.
