Cleaning your CD player is easy if you know what you are doing.
Steps

Step 1. Make sure there is no CD in the player
Open the tray and unplug the power cord without disconnecting it from the power button - this will leave the tray open, allowing you to access the optics.

Step 2. Unscrew and remove the top cover
Turn the cover upside down and place the screws inside it to avoid losing them.

Step 3. Spray some WD40 on the Q-Tip (cotton swab) and lubricate the “rails” that the laser glides on
Rotate the largest of the plastic gears to move the laser and lubricate the part of the "rails" underneath - make sure you don't use excessive force.

Step 4. Take another cotton swab and dip it in ethanol

Step 5. Squeeze it between your fingers to remove excess ethanol
Cotton should be damp, but not wet.

Step 6. Clean the laser lens by wiping with a cotton swab

Step 7. Wait a few minutes for the lenses to dry

Step 8. Replace the cover and tighten the screws, making sure not to overtighten them (this could split the plastic case)

Step 9. Turn on the player without placing a disc in it
If the player is a mini system, switch it to CD mode. You will hear a sliding sound, which is the return of the laser to the correct position.

Step 10. Insert CD and enjoy
Advice
- Make sure the cotton swab is rolled tightly. There should be no cotton threads left on the lenses.
- If the player is not yet working, take it to a repair shop. Do not touch the electrical system.
