The fastest way to open Ubuntu terminal is by using basic keyboard shortcuts. Terminal can also be opened from the Dash panel or via a shortcut on the Quick Launch bar. On older versions of Ubuntu, the terminal can be found in the Applications folder.
Steps
Method 1 of 4: Using Hot Keys

Step 1. Press
Ctrl + Alt + T. This will launch the terminal.

Step 2. Click
Alt + F2 and enter gnome-terminal.
This will launch a terminal as well.

Step 3. Click
⊞ Win + T (Xubuntu only).
This keyboard shortcut for launching a terminal only works on the Xubuntu distribution.

Step 4. Change the keyboard shortcut
The shortcut Ctrl + Alt + T can be changed to something else:
- Click on the "System Preferences" button on the launcher.
- Click on the "Keyboard" option. It is located in the "Equipment" section.
- Click on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
- Select the Input category and then highlight Launch Terminal.
- Enter a new keyboard shortcut.
Method 2 of 4: Via Dash Panel

Step 1. Click on the Dash button or press
⊞ Win. The Dash button is in the upper left corner of the window and has the Ubuntu logo drawn on it.
If you changed the ⊞ Win superkey to something else, then click on the new button

Step 2. Enter terminal

Step 3. Press the key
⏎ Return.
Method 3 of 4: Via the Unity Launcher Panel

Step 1. Click on the Dash button
It can be found in the Unity panel. The button will have the Ubuntu logo.

Step 2. Enter terminal to find it

Step 3. Drag the terminal icon from the search results to the panel

Step 4. Click on the new terminal icon to launch it
Method 4 of 4: Ubuntu version 10.04 or later

Step 1. Click on the "Applications" button
In older versions of Ubuntu, this button is in the Unity panel.

Step 2. Click "Standard"
In the Xubuntu distribution, instead of the "Standard" item, there will be a "System" item.
