This article describes in detail the process of installing Microsoft Windows XP on an Asus Eee PC netbook that does not have a CD / DVD drive and the Linux distribution is installed by default. This guide will work for other versions of Windows as well (Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows 7) and will help you reinstall the operating system on your netbook.
Steps

Step 1. Create a bootable disk
Download this zip file and unzip the files to your computer.

Step 2. Open the USB_MultiBoot_10 folder, and run the USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd file
A command prompt will open. Press any key to continue.

Step 3. Format the USB stick
Enter H and the HP Disk Storage Format Tool opens. Follow the instructions to format your flash drive. Make sure you check the Quick Format box. You can also format the USB flash drive in Windows FAT32 format if the program does not detect it.

Step 4. On the command line, change the media type and specify the directory with the source files
Enter 0 and press Enter so that USB Stick appears at the end of the line. After that, type 1 and press Enter to select the location of the Windows XP files (select the location on the drive where the XP installation files are located). If you get a message with 'winnt.sif', click Yes.

Step 5. On the installation screen, enter all the required data and the system activation code
If you fill in all the fields now, you will not need to enter them during installation.

Step 6. In the command line, enter 2, press Enter and select your USB flash drive

Step 7. Prepare a copy of the files for the flash drive
At the command prompt, enter 3 and press Enter; you will see that the files will start copying to the USB stick. If you are asked 'Copy XP and extra sources on the USB?' (Do you copy files from XP to a USB flash drive?), select Yes. If the message 'has not fat fat32 or ntfs format and is not valid' appears when you select a flash drive on Windows 7, you need to open USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd, find the line VER | find "6.0." > nul, and change it to VER | find "6.1." > nul to indicate that you are running the script on Windows 7; after that fsutil should correctly detect your USB stick.

Step 8. Copy files from disk to USB flash drive
After you see the message 'FileCopy to USB-Drive is Ready - OK - Success', click Yes (make your flash drive bootable U: for XP installation) and press any key.

Step 9. Connect the USB flash drive to your Asus Eee PC, turn on the netbook and change the BIOS settings
On the first screen during boot, press F2 to enter BIOS settings. In the BIOS menu, open the Advanced tab and change OS Installation to Start. Then open Hard Disk Drives> Boot and select your USB drive as the first device. Make sure your flash drive appears first in the Boot Device Priority section. Select Exit & Save Changes.

Step 10. While rebooting the netbook, select the TXT Mode Setup Windows XP - Never unplug USB-Drive Until Logon option
This will launch the Windows XP setup program (fast format NTFS, create partitions).

Step 11. After automatic reboot, complete the installation
Select options 2 and 3. Installation usually takes 20 to 40 minutes. After restarting, the computer will log into your Windows XP user account.

Step 12. Find all the necessary drivers for your Asus Eee PC on the manufacturer's website (it is recommended to install the drivers for the chipset and ACPI first)
Then restart the netbook. Ready.
Advice
- This process can take up to one and a half hours. If you do not use the automatic installation, during the installation you are near the computer, because you will need to enter some data (date, time zone, network settings).
- Change the boot sequence on your Asus Eee PC: choose your USB stick as your primary / primary device.
- You can use nLite for your personal Windows XP ISO (optional).
- Activate Windows as soon as possible to download the latest updates.
Warnings
- Make sure you have a valid Windows activation code, otherwise your computer will not function properly.
- Save all important information from your Asus Eee PC before starting the installation.
- The files for the flash drive that you download on the Internet are created by third-party developers. Check them for viruses before unpacking.
