Warnings

  • You cannot change the startup sound of Windows Vista or 7 using this method. The startup sound is played immediately after Windows boots with a system file, which cannot be edited without additional programs for editing system boot control files (but you can disable it by unchecking everything in the same control panel that controls sounds).
  • The shutdown sound can also be changed in Windows XP and earlier.
