No free space on iPad? As you use your iPad, files and applications will accumulate in its memory, and free space will become less and less. To free up memory, you need to delete various files and applications; this way you will not only get free space in the memory of your device, but also increase its performance.
Steps
Part 1 of 6: Viewing Free Space

Step 1. Open the Settings app

Step 2. Select the "General" option

Step 3. Click "Usage"
The Memory section displays the amount of free and used memory.
Part 2 of 6: Backing Up and Deleting Photos

Step 1. Photos stored on your device take up a significant amount of space
In this case, just connect iPad to computer, copy photos to computer, and then delete all photos from iPad.
- If you use iCloud Photo Library, this service will copy every photo stored in it to your device. In this case, skip to the last chapter of this article.
- If you don't have a computer, back up your photos to iCloud and then delete them. Note that if you're using a free iCloud account, your photos can take up a significant chunk of your 5GB storage.

Step 2. Connect iPad to computer
Windows will open an autorun window. On Mac OS, open iPhoto.

Step 3. In Windows, in the autorun window, select "Import photos and videos"; on Mac OS, in iPhoto, select the connected device and click Import Photos
If Windows doesn't open the AutoPlay window, press ⊞ Win + E, right-click your iPad and select Import Photos and Videos

Step 4. In Windows, before importing photos, you need to configure their deletion at the end of the process (in Mac OS, you will be prompted to delete the images after copying is complete)
- In the Import Photos and Videos window, click Advanced Options.
- Check the option "Delete files from device after import".

Step 5. Before importing photos, you can set up the copying process to automatically organize the images on your computer
- In Windows, click Advanced Options. Here you can change the folder where the images are copied, as well as set up automatic renaming of files during the import process. You can also click Add Tags to categorize your photos before copying them.
- IPhoto (Mac OS) automatically organizes photos by date they were taken. You can manually move them to a different folder, or sort them using a different method.

Step 6. Wait for the copying process to complete
This may take a while, especially if you have a lot of photos. If you've already backed up your photos but haven't deleted them from iPad, then only new images will be copied.

Step 7. Delete the photos after copying them
On Windows, the photos will be deleted automatically, and on Mac OS, click “Delete Photos” to delete all copied photos.
Part 3 of 6: Remove Unused Applications

Step 1. Lots of installed apps take up your iPad's storage space
At the same time, games take up much more free space than other applications. To free up memory, simply uninstall unused games and other applications.
- You can uninstall apps from the home screen, but the method described here will allow you to sort apps by size and see how much memory each app is using.
- When you uninstall apps, you can easily restore them as they are stored under your Apple ID and you can download any app from the App Store.
- If you want to back up your app, use iTunes to copy all documents and data associated with the app. If you have activated the iCloud Backup service, then the applications are backed up automatically (when you back up the entire device to iCloud).

Step 2. Open the Settings app and tap General

Step 3. Tap Usage and then under Memory, tap Manage Memory

Step 4. A list of applications will be displayed

Step 5. Click on the application to be removed
You will see how much space it takes up.

Step 6. Double-click "Remove Application" to remove the application and all associated files

Step 7. Repeat the uninstallation process with all unused applications
Part 4 of 6: Deleting Media Files (Music, Videos, etc.)

Step 1. Register for iTunes Match
Media files take up a significant portion of your device's memory. iTunes Match is Apple's paid service that lets you share your iTunes library with your iPad (or any other Apple device or computer). This way you can free up storage space by getting rid of media files stored on your iPad. Read this article for detailed instructions.
- The service has drawbacks. It costs $ 25 per year, and you can only stream data when connected to the network. Therefore, download music to your iPad in advance to listen to it even without a network connection.
- iTunes Match lets you download songs that weren't purchased from the iTunes Store. You can also use the Google Play Music service to download and listen to music.

Step 2. If you are going to use a streaming service or Internet radio, you can delete all music files from your iPad
Any music you purchase can be downloaded from the iTunes Store.
- Open the Settings app.
- Click "General" - "Usage".
- In the Memory section, click Memory Management.
- Click on the Music app. If this application is not listed, then there are no music files on your device.
- Click "Edit".
- Click on the “-” next to “All Songs” and then click on “Delete”.

Step 3. If you want to delete specific songs, you can do this through the Music app
Note: the list of displayed music files may contain songs that are not on your iPad (but are available in iTunes, iTunes Match, and so on).
- Open the Music app.
- Find the song or album you want to delete. Songs that haven't been copied to your iPad will be marked with an iCloud icon (to the right of the song title).
- Swipe over a song or album from right to left; the Delete button appears. If you can't swipe through a song, then it isn't stored on your iPad (and doesn't take up memory). If you cannot swipe through an album, then one or more songs from that album are not stored on your iPad; in this case, delete individual songs from the album.
- Click Remove. If you see a Remove button (not Remove), then you are in Playlist mode. You need to delete songs in the "Songs" or "Albums" or "Artists" mode.

Step 4. Movies, TV shows and music videos also take up a lot of memory
For example, HD video takes up a lot of free space. Therefore, it is recommended that you delete the video after watching it.
- Open the Settings app and then tap General - Usage.
- In the Memory section, click Memory Management.
- Select the Video app (it will likely be at the top of the list).
- A list of all the video files (with their sizes) stored on your iPad will be displayed. In the case of TV shows, the size of each episode will be displayed.
- Click "Edit" and then click "-" next to the video you want to delete. Repeat this process with other unnecessary video files.
Part 5 of 6: Deleting Old Messages

Step 1. Open the Messages app
If you send messages via iMessage, the saved messages take up a lot of memory (especially if you send and receive a lot of pictures and videos through messages).

Step 2. Click "Edit" (top)

Step 3. Click on each conversation to be deleted to select it
When you delete a conversation, all messages and images inside it will be deleted. Therefore, write down the important information and save the photos

Step 4. Click “Delete” (bottom) to delete all selected conversations
Part 6 of 6: Manage iCloud Photo Library

Step 1. iCloud Photo Library is a program that allows you to automatically upload and store all your photos on your iCloud Drive, making them accessible from any device
This means that every device that has iCloud Photo Library enabled will download and store a copy of each photo in the device's memory.
To save space on your iPad when using iCloud Photo Library, you can configure the program to load only thumbnail versions of images into iPad memory and store the original versions in your iCloud Drive

Step 2. Open the Settings app

Step 3. Click "iCloud" - "Photos"

Step 4. Check "Optimize iPad storage" to download smaller versions of photos to iPad (they are half the size of the original versions)
