How to scan a QR code on an iPhone or iPad

In this article, we are going to show you how to scan QR code with iPhone / iPad camera. A QR code is a black and white abstract image that encrypts data or information, such as a user's social media profile.

Steps

Method 1 of 5: Using a camera

Step 1. Enable scanning on the device, if necessary

To scan the QR code with your iPhone / iPad camera, first update your device to iOS 11 or later.
Launch the Settings app

… Click on the gray gear icon on the home screen.
Scroll down and tap Camera. You will find this option in the middle of the settings page.
Tap the white "Scan QR Codes" slider

… This will enable the QR code scanner using the iPhone / iPad camera.
If the slider next to the specified option is already green, you can immediately start scanning QR codes.

Step 2. Turn on the device camera

To do this, launch the Camera application by tapping the black camera icon on a gray background.

You can also swipe up from the bottom of the screen to open Control Center, and then tap the Camera app icon there

Step 3. Point the camera at the QR code

The QR code should appear in the center of the device screen, with the entire code visible on the screen.

If the front camera is on, tap the camera-shaped icon with an arrow in the lower-right corner

Step 4. Wait for the code to be scanned

When this happens, the notification "Open [site] in Safari" will be displayed at the top of the screen.

Step 5. Tap on the notification

If the code contains a site address, that site will open in the mobile Safari browser.

Method 2 of 5: Using Wallet

Step 1. Launch the Wallet app

This app only scans QR codes for "passes" such as boarding passes or movie tickets

Step 2. Tap Scan Code

You will find this option at the bottom of the screen.

Step 3. Point the iPhone camera at the QR code

A pulsating square will appear on the screen.

Step 4. Make the code appear inside the square

Wallet will scan the QR code and add the pass automatically.

If the QR code is not a “pass”, the message “No card for this code” will be displayed.
When you scan the first code, click the "+" in the upper right corner, and then tap "Scan code to add a card."

Method 3 of 5: Using Facebook Messenger

Step 1. Launch the Messenger app

Click on the blue speech cloud with a white lightning bolt. You can find it on one of the desktops or in the Dock.

Step 2. Click People

You will find this option in the lower right corner.

Step 3. Tap Scan Code

Step 4. Point the camera of the device at the code

Step 5. Hold the square over the code

The device will scan the code and display information about the person who owns the code.

With the Messenger scanner, you can quickly add to your friends list. To do this, click "Add to Messenger" when you scan the code.
You can also click My Code at the top of the screen to have someone else scan your code.

Method 4 of 5: Using Snapchat

Step 1. Launch the Snapchat app

Click on the icon in the form of a white ghost on a yellow background. You can find it on one of the desktops or in the Dock.

Step 2. Point the device camera at the snapcode

Step 3. Tap and hold the screen with the camera turned on

It will take a few seconds to focus.

Step 4. Remove your finger from the screen when the snapcode pop-up window appears

A short beep will sound and the screen will display information about the person who owns the code.

It's a great way to add friends to Snapchat. To do this, click "Add as Friend" at the bottom of the pop-up window.
You can also open your code so other people can scan it. To do this, swipe down on the Snapchat camera-enabled screen.
