This article will show you how to split the onscreen keyboard on iPad to make typing easier with your thumbs.
Steps

Step 1. Open the Settings app (⚙️)
The icon for this application looks like a gray gear and is usually located on the home screen.

Step 2. Click General
It's near the top of the menu, next to the gear icon (⚙️).

Step 3. Press Keyboard
It's in the middle of the menu.

Step 4. Move the "Split keyboard" slider to the "Enable" position
It will turn green. This will allow you to use the Split Keyboard feature on your iPad.
To disable the feature, move the Split Keyboard slider to the Off position; it will turn white

Step 5. Click on the text box
In any application that uses a keyboard, such as Notes or Messages, click in the text field to open the onscreen keyboard.
The Split Keyboard feature does not work when iPad is connected to a physical (hardware) keyboard

Step 6. Spread two fingers apart
Place your closed fingers in the middle of the onscreen keyboard, and then slide them apart. If Split Keyboard is enabled, the on-screen keyboard will split into two halves.
Be aware that auto-suggestion (auto-complete) does not work when the keyboard is split

Step 7. Close your fingers
To connect the onscreen keyboard, place your fingers apart on the edges of the keyboard, and then close them.
