How to add an image to Illustrator

This article will show you how to add an image to a file in Adobe Illustrator on a Windows or Mac OS X computer, or in Adobe Illustrator Draw, which is a mobile application with fewer features than the computer version of Illustrator.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On the computer

Step 1. Open the file in Adobe Illustrator

To do this, start Illustrator, click File (on the menu bar)> Open, and then select the file to which you want to add the image.

To create a new file, click File (on the menu bar)> New

Step 2. Click File on the menu bar

This menu is at the top of the screen.

Step 3. Click Place

Step 4. Select the image you want to add

Step 5. Click Place

Step 6. Place the image as needed

Drag a corner of the image inward or outward to resize the image

Step 7. Click on Linked

It's in the toolbar at the top of the window.

Step 8. Click File on the menu bar

Step 9. Click Save

The selected image is added to the file.

Method 2 of 2: On a mobile device

Step 1. Open the Adobe Illustrator Draw application

Its icon looks like an orange feather (from a fountain pen) on a black background.

• Adobe Illustrator Draw is a free app available from the Apple App Store (iPhone / iPad) or the Google Play Store (Android).
• Sign in to your Adobe account (unless it happened automatically). Click "Register" if you don't have an account.

Step 2. Click on the project

Select the project where you want to add the image.

To create a new project, click on the white "+" sign in the orange circle in the lower right corner of the screen

Step 3. Choose a format

A list of formats will be displayed on the right side of the screen.

Step 4. Click on the orange + sign

It's in a white circle on the right side of the screen.

Step 5. Click Image Layer

It's near the bottom of the screen.

Step 6. Select the source of the image

• Tap On [device] to select a photo in the device memory.
• Click “Take Photo” to take a photo using the camera of your device.
• Click My Files to use an image stored in Adobe Creative Cloud.
• Click Market or Adobe Stock to buy and / or download someone else's image.
• When prompted, allow Adobe Illustrator Draw to access your device's photos or camera.

Step 7. Click or take a photo you want to add

Step 8. Place the image as needed

Drag a corner of the image inward or outward to resize the image

Step 9. Click Finish

The selected image is added to your Illustrator Draw project.
