How to change Google Home language: 9 steps

This article will show you how to change the language of your Google Home device using the Google Home app for iPhone and Android. The languages Google Assistant can speak depends on the device and your location. After changing the Google Home language, the assistant will only recognize commands spoken in that language.

Step 1. Open the Google Home app

Tap the Google Home icon (multicolor home outline) in the Apps menu. If your device has not yet installed the Google Home app, download it and link your smartphone or tablet to it.

On Android, the Google Home app can be downloaded from the Play Store.
On iPhone, the Google Home app can be downloaded from the App Store.

On iPhone, this option is at the top of the menu, and on Android, it is in the second set of options. After that, you will see cards of all available Google Home devices on your home network.

Tap the name of the Google Home speaker under Devices.

If you use multiple devices with an account linked to Google Home, changing the language for one of them will affect all other devices

This is the penultimate option on Android and the third option from the top on the iPhone.

This should instantly change the Google Assistant voice language on your Google Home device. The languages available for selection will vary depending on the device and your location.

After changing the Google Home language, the assistant will only recognize the commands spoken in that language.
If you select a different version of the same language, Google Home will speak with the accent of the specified region. Google Home will better recognize commands with this accent.
