How to find your product key for Office: 10 steps

This article will show you how to find the product key for the version of Microsoft Office installed on your device.

Method 1 of 2: Microsoft Office 365, 2016, 2013 and 2011

Step 1. Review your personal letters and documents

Newer versions of Office do not leave the full 25-character product key in an accessible format on the computer. The easiest way to find the key is to find a digital receipt (if the purchase was made via the Internet) or product packaging (if in a store).

• If your computer originally came with a registered version of Office, you'll find a holographic key sticker right on the device.
• If you still have original discs or packaging, look for a sticker or key card.
• If you purchased the software through the Microsoft Store, look in your inbox for the purchase receipt letter. The receipt must include the product key.

Step 2. Contact the online store

If you can't find your receipt, sign in to your store account.

• If you bought it from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account on the page https://www.microsoftstore.com.

  • Open up Order journal.

  • Select your order..

  • Press Install Office.

  • Press Hello! Get your Officeto display the key.
• If you bought Office through your employer and Microsoft HUP, follow these steps:

  • Log in to your account at https://microsofthup.com.

  • Open up Order journal.

  • Enter the email address that was used to purchase the program. An email with a link will be sent to this address.
  • Click on the link in the letter.
  • Click on the order number to display the key.

Step 3. Check your Microsoft Office account

If you've already installed Office and entered your product key, you'll find it in your account:

• Go to https://stores.office.com/myaccount.

• Sign in to your account.

• Press Installing from disk.

• Press I have a disk.

• Press Key view.

  

  Step 4. Contact Microsoft support

  If all else fails and you have proof of purchase, try contacting Microsoft. To do this, go to the page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/ and press Beginning of work.

  Method 2 of 2: Microsoft Office 2010 or 2007

  

  Step 1. Check your email receipt

  If you bought Office from an online store and downloaded it to your computer, you will find the complete 25-character product key on your electronic purchase receipt.

  

  Step 2. Go to the online store

  If you've downloaded Office but can't find your receipt, try finding your product key by signing into your store account.

  • If you bought it from Digital River, get your key by visiting the customer support page and choosing How do I get my serial number or unlock code?

    (How to get serial number or unlock code). Follow the instructions on the screen to get the key.

  • If you bought it from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:

    • Sign in to your account from the page https://www.microsoftstore.com.

    • Open up Order journal.

    • Select your order.

    • Press Install Office.

    • Press Hello! Get your Officeto display the key.

  

  Step 3. Check the packaging of the product

  If you bought a boxed version of Office, the product key must be on the box. If not, the box should contain instructions on how to find your product key online.

  • If the version of Office you are using came with a PIN Product Key Card, go to https://office.com/getkey and enter the 27-digit number from the card.

  

  Step 4. Look for a holographic sticker on your computer

  If Office was already installed and activated on your computer at the time of purchase, you'll find your product key on a holographic sticker somewhere on your device.

  

  Step 5. Use LicenseCrawler (PC only)

  If other methods do not help, use the LicenseCrawler utility (or another free key finder) to decrypt the key. Use it like this:

  • Go to http://www.klinzmann.name/licensecrawler.htm and click on "Download".
  • Click one of the links under Portable-Version.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to download the ZIP archive.
  • Unzip the file. A folder with the application inside will be created. Since this is a portable version of the program, you do not have to run the installation file.

  • Open a new folder and double click on the file LicenseCrawler.exe.

  • Click on Search (Search). Close all pop-ups. The app will scan your registry.
  • Scroll down and find the entry that starts with one of the following lines:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 14.0 (Office 2010)
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 12.0 (Office 2007)
  • Find your product key after the phrase “Serial Number”. It is a 25-character key with 5 sets of letters and numbers.

  

  Step 6. Contact Microsoft support

  If all else fails and you have proof of purchase, try contacting Microsoft. To do this, go to the page https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/ and press Beginning of work.
