Displaying page numbers in a large document is absolutely essential because it makes it much more convenient to flip through pages and make changes. Also, the page numbers indicate the print queue, which is equally important. Here's how to make page numbers appear in Word documents.

Method 1 of 2: How to add page numbers in Word 2007/2010/2013

Step 1. Insert page numbers
Click on the Insert tab, in the Headers and Footers group, click on the Page Number command. Add the number by choosing where on the page it should appear.

Step 2. Select the type of page numbers from the proposed collection

Step 3. Formatting page numbers
After adding page numbers, you can change them in the same way as the text of the headers and footers, choosing for them the font, size and format. Double-click the header or footer of one of the pages in your document. Method 2 of 2: Change the font and size of page numbers

Step 1. Select the location where you want to change the appearance of the page numbers
Place your cursor at the top of the page.

Step 2. Double click on the header or footer or on the page margin of the document
Highlight the desired page number. Then, on the mini toolbar that is displayed above the number you have selected, you need to do one of these actions:

To increase the font size, you need to click the Increase Size button, or you can use the CTRL + SHIFT +> keys on your keyboard. To decrease the font size, you need to click on the "Decrease Size" button or use the CTRL + SHIFT + <keys on your keyboard. Another font size can be selected in the "Home" tab, the Font group.
