Learn how to receive Gmail emails in Outlook 2016 for Windows and Mac OS X. If you don't have Outlook on your computer, buy and install Microsoft Office 365 first.
Steps
Part 1 of 5: How to enable IMAP in Gmail

Step 1. Open Gmail
Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in your computer's web browser.
- If you are not already logged into Gmail, enter your email address and password.
- If you're signed in to a different account, click your profile picture in the upper right corner of the page, click Add Account, and then enter your email address and password to sign in to the desired account.

Step 2. Click the icon

You will find it at the top right side of the page. A menu will open.

Step 3. Click Settings
It's in the middle of the menu. The settings page will open.

Step 4. Click the Forwarding & POP / IMAP tab
It's near the top of the settings page.

Step 5. Check the box next to "Enable IMAP"
It's in the IMAP Access section of the settings page.
If this box is already checked, go to this section

Step 6. Click Save Changes
It's a gray button at the bottom of the page. This will enable IMAP for incoming Gmail emails so that they appear in Outlook later.
Part 2 of 5: How to Enable 2-Step Verification for Gmail

Step 1. Click on the "Google Apps" icon
It's the "⋮⋮⋮" icon in the upper-right side of the Gmail page. A menu will open.

Step 2. Click on Account
This option is marked with a shield icon and is in the menu. Your Google account page will open.

Step 3. Click Security & Login
It's on the left side of the page.

Step 4. Scroll down and tap Two-Step Verification
You will find this option at the bottom right of the page.

Step 5. Click on Start
It's a blue button in the bottom-right corner of the page.
You may have to scroll down the page to see this button

Step 6. Enter your password when prompted
Enter the password you use to log into your Gmail inbox.

Step 7. Click Next
It's at the bottom of the page.

Step 8. Click Send Notification
This blue button is in the lower-right side of the page. A notification will be sent to your phone number.
- If your device is not listed, sign in to your Gmail account in the Google app (iPhone) or sign in to your Google account in the Settings app (Android).
- You need to install the Google app on your iPhone. It's available for free on the App Store.

Step 9. Follow the instructions on the screen
Open a notification on your device by swiping to the right if the phone is locked, or touching it if the phone is unlocked. Now click "Yes" or "Allow".

Step 10. Make sure the phone number is correct
Look at the phone number at the top of the page; if it matches the recovery phone number, proceed to the next step.
If this is not the correct phone number, please change it

Step 11. Click Submit
It's a blue button at the bottom right of the page. Google will send a verification code to the number you provided.

Step 12. Enter the verification code
Find the code in the text message on your phone, and then enter it in the line in the middle of the page.

Step 13. Click Next
It's a blue button at the bottom of the page.

Step 14. Click Enable
This blue button is on the right side of the page. This will enable 2-Step Verification for your Gmail account. Now create a password for your Gmail account.
Part 3 of 5: How to Create a Password for Gmail

Step 1. Click on the "Google Apps" icon
It's the "⋮⋮⋮" icon in the upper-right side of the Gmail page. A menu will open.

Step 2. Click on Account
This option is marked with a shield icon and is in the menu. Your Google account page will open.

Step 3. Click Security & Login
It's on the left side of the page.

Step 4. Scroll down and tap Password
You will find this option on the right side of the page (above the 2-Step Verification option).

Step 5. Enter your password
Enter the password you use to log into your Gmail account.

Step 6. Click Next
It's below the password text box.

Step 7. Click Select Application
This gray text box is on the left side of the page. A menu will open.

Step 8. Click on Other
It's at the bottom of the menu. A text box will appear.

Step 9. Enter a name
Enter Outlook (or something similar) in the text box.

Step 10. Click Create
It's a blue button on the right side of the page. A 12 letter password will be generated and displayed with a yellow background on the right side of the page - use this password to log into Outlook.

Step 11. Copy the password
Hold down the left mouse button and hover over the entire password, then press Ctrl + C (Windows) or ⌘ Command + C (Mac) to copy the code.
Alternatively, you can right-click on the highlighted code and select Copy from the menu
Part 4 of 5: How to Add a Gmail Account to Outlook

Step 1. Launch Outlook on your computer
Click on the blue icon with a white "o" and a white envelope.
- If you're not already signed in to your Outlook account, enter your Microsoft email address, enter your password, and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Outlook is different from the Outlook website.

Step 2. Open the File menu
It's in the upper-left side of the Outlook window.
- If you don't see the File menu in the upper-left corner of the Outlook window, either you've opened the Outlook website or are using a version of Outlook that can't add accounts.
- On a Mac, open the Tools menu.

Step 3. Click Add Account
It's in the upper-left side of the File menu. A pop-up window will appear.
On a Mac, choose Accounts from the Tools menu

Step 4. Enter your Gmail email address
Enter the Gmail mailbox address that you want to sync with Outlook.

Step 5. Click Connect
This button is located below the email address text box.

Step 6. Enter your password
Click the Password text box and then press Ctrl + V (Windows) or ⌘ Command + V (Mac) to enter the password you copied earlier.
Alternatively, you can right-click the Password text box and then select Paste from the menu

Step 7. Click Connect
It's near the bottom of the window. Your Gmail account will be integrated into Outlook.

Step 8. Click OK when prompted
This means your Gmail account is connected to Outlook. Your Gmail account name should appear in the left pane of the Outlook window.
First, uncheck the box next to "Set up Outlook on my phone."
Part 5 of 5: How to Import Google Contacts

Step 1. Download your Gmail contacts
Go to https://www.google.com/contacts/ in a web browser, sign in with your Gmail address and password (if prompted), then follow these steps:
- check the box in the upper left corner of the page to select all contacts;
- click "More";
- click on "Export" in the menu;
- check the box next to "All contacts";
- check the box next to "Outlook CSV format" (on a Mac computer, check the box next to "vCard format");
- click "Export" at the bottom of the window.

Step 2. Start Outlook to import contacts into it
- On a Mac computer, click the downloaded vCard file, click File in the upper left corner of the screen, choose Open, click Outlook and follow the onscreen instructions. The Gmail contacts will be imported to Outlook.
- If you've closed Outlook, open it.

Step 3. Open the File menu
It's in the upper-left corner of the Outlook window.

Step 4. Click on Open and Export
You will find this option in the File menu. The "Import and Export" page appears.

Step 5. Click Import and Export
It's in the middle of the page. The Import / Export Wizard window will open.

Step 6. Click Import from another program or file
It's in the middle of the window.

Step 7. Click Next
It's in the lower-right corner of the window.

Step 8. Click Comma Separated Values
It's near the top of the window.

Step 9. Click Next

Step 10. Click Browse
It's in the upper-right side of the window.

Step 11. Select the downloaded file with contacts
To do this, go to the folder with the downloaded file, and then click on it.

Step 12. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. The contact file will be loaded.

Step 13. Click Next
You can also click Allow Duplicates in the middle of the window.

Step 14. Select the "Contacts" folder
Scroll up or down to find the Contacts folder and then click on it.
- Typically, the Contacts folder is located at the top of the window.
- The Contacts folder is not like a standard folder.

Step 15. Click Next

Step 16. Click Finish
It's near the bottom of the window. Your contacts will be imported to Outlook.
To view your Outlook contacts, click Address Book in the Find section at the top of the Outlook window
Advice
- Two-factor authentication is Google's version of two-factor authentication. Such authentication involves entering the code / password received on the phone when authorizing in Gmail on another computer.
- The newer version of Google Contacts does not support exporting contacts, so use the old version of Google Contacts to export your contacts.
Warnings
- If you mark a message as read in Outlook, it is not a fact that it will be marked the same in Gmail.
- You cannot attach an EXE file to an email in Gmail. Also, the maximum attachment size should not exceed 25 MB.
