How to Create a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Game Using PowerPoint

You have probably seen or heard about the TV game Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. Believe it or not, you can create your own Q&A game using the simple version of Microsoft PowerPoint!

Steps

Step 1. Open Microsoft PowerPoint

Step 2. Open a new presentation

By default, PowerPoint should automatically launch with a new presentation. Otherwise, go to File> New or press Ctrl + N.

Step 3. Choose a slide design

Choose a background color for your slides by going to Formatting> Background and choose an appropriate background color. For the game "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire", black or blue colors are better suited. If you cannot find a suitable color, then select "More Colors" or "Fills".

Step 4. Create a title slide

This is the first slide the player will see before the game. You can turn on a short introduction and then launch the menu. The main menu should include:

• welcome
• The title "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire"
• Links "Start the game" and "How to play" (here you describe the rules of the game)

  Consider how the player decides where to click to make their choice. You can have the user just click anywhere on the screen or use -> to go to the next slide, however links are recommended. To create a hyperlink, you need to select text, WordArt, click the Action Button, select a shape or object to right-click and use the Hyperlink command. After the dialog box appears, select "Place in this document". From here, you can choose which slide to jump to when you click on text or an object

Step 5. Create the first question

On the question slide, you must show or mention the money tree, how much money the player can make at each stage of the game. Go to Shapes> Basic Shapes and select Hexagon. This form is very similar to the box that displays questions and answer options in a TV show. Draw your form that will display the question. As in the show, the figure should not be tall and wide. Color black, blue or whichever you prefer. Then draw a shape that you want to put on the question form and write the first question there. Now make 4 more blocks on which the answer options will be displayed. The answer block must be smaller than the question block. Place 4 shapes under the question box and place them as they appear on TV. At the top of the blocks, insert the text with the answer options. Now create hyperlinks that allow the player to answer the question …

Step 6. Hyperlink selection

After the player has read the question and the four options, you need them to select the desired answer and move on to the next slide. Hover your cursor over the text box of the first response block. This time, instead of selecting the hyperlinked text, click on the shape outline to select the text box. Right click on the outline of the window, select "Hyperlink". Then set the slide you want to link to this answer option.

Create a slide ahead of time to congratulate the player on answering correctly. The player must be directed to this slide via a hyperlink by clicking on the correct answer. For all other answers, create a slide that tells you that the answer is wrong

Step 7. Create the effect of the appearance of answer options

You can ask a question and then one by one the options will appear, just like in the show. Here's how to do it:

• Highlight the outline of the question block, just as you did by hyperlinking the four answer choices. Make sure to select the path and not the text. Then go to Slideshow> Animation Settings. A menu should appear on the right-hand side of the Animation Settings taskbar. Under the Add Effect button, choose Input>, and then choose one of the options to animate the appearance of the answer option. There are different options for animation of the entrance: fade, emerge, dissolve, and so on.
• Now, the new animation should appear in the white space of the menu on the right. Right-click on it. Select Start After Previous. Next, select the first answer selection text box. Under the Add Effect button, choose Input> and then choose one of the animation options. If you want, you can choose "Random" to make the animation option random. After the animation is lower than the previous one, in the taskbar, right-click on the second animation and select "Run after Previous". Right click again. This time select "Interval" and enter the number of seconds you give the player to read the question before the answer choices appear. For example, enter 5-10 seconds. We do not want the player to sit and think: "What? Are you going to show the answer options or what?"
• Next, select the second animation in the list. Under the Add Effect button, choose Enter> and then choose one of the options for the second animation to appear. After the animation appears on the taskbar, right-click on it and select Run After Previous. Now, select "Interval". Then enter the number of seconds between the appearance of the answer choices. 1, 5 - 3 seconds will be enough. Repeat this step to display the last two answer choices.
• You can repeat this with each of your questions, or copy and paste the slide. You do not need to re-install the effects, you just need to change the text of the questions and answers. However, if you copied and pasted the slide, then you will need to change the hyperlinks!

Step 8. Create a slide to congratulate the player on winning

In a real program, this is a huge achievement, so your slide should be bright and fun! Alternatively, you can offer participants the option to play again or exit the presentation.

Advice

• This game is perfect for educational purposes if you are a teacher! Many children are probably familiar with the basic concept of the program, or you can explain the rules using PowerPoint! This is a great educational game for dealing with different educational issues and it would be interesting for children. To diversify the learning process and attract the interest of as many children as possible, you can use the "Ask a class" or "Call a friend" function.
• In the most recent US versions of the program, there is a time limit for each question. You can also add a time limit like this:
• Find the question slide you would like to add a time limit to. Create a WordArt showing the time it will take for the player (for example: 30 or: 15 seconds). From the main toolbar, go to Slideshow> Animation Settings to open the task pane. On the slide, select WordArt. In the Animation Settings task pane, click the Add Effect button and select Input. Click on the "Appearance" button. A new animation should appear on the taskbar. Then right-click on the animation and select Start With Previous. Then, leave the WordArt selected and under Add Effect choose Exit and choose Fade out. Again, right-click on the effect located in the taskbar, but this time choose Run After Previous. Then right click on the animation and select Spacing. Enter "1" in the text box. Now create another WordArt showing the subsequent value (for example: 29 or: 14). Place it "directly" above the last animation. To do this, make sure the colons (:) are aligned. Click on the second WordArt (for example: 29 or: 14) and under Add Effect select Exit and choose Appearance. Again, choose Intervals. Enter "1" in the text box.
• Keep creating more WordArts (remember counting:: 30,: 29,: 28,: 27,…). Repeat these steps until you get to: 00. After you finish Intervals from: 00, select everything that is on the slide. Under the Add Effect button, choose Exit> Fade In. Now, create a text box that will indicate to the player that the time has expired. Also place the hyperlinks “New Game”and“Exit Presentation.”These can all seem confusing as they all overlap, but should work fine !!
• Show the game to friends or family and ask them what they think of it. They will probably love it !!
• You can get inspiration from games on TV. Watch TV and watch the game, it will inspire you.
• Add your own game rules. For example, set a time limit for a question at $ 1 million or change the cost of some questions, for example, replace questions for 32000, 64000 and 125000 with 25000, 50,000 and 100000.
• To create a hyperlink to exit the game, you must create an Action Button. To create an Action Button, go to Shapes> Action Buttons and click on an empty button. Then place the button where you want to place it in your presentation. After you have drawn the button, a dialog box will appear. Select the "Hyperlink to:" option. Click the arrow to display the image and select End. Finally, select the action button and enter what you want to communicate, such as "End of game" or "Exit".

Warnings

• You may have problems or errors with hyperlinks. If this is your first PowerPoint game, or if you are not very familiar with PowerPoint, don't get discouraged and keep trying !!
