If you use a pirated key in Microsoft Office, then critical updates and other Microsoft support are not available to you. A product key is a series of characters (numbers and letters) designed to identify the original copy of a particular program. The key is usually entered by the user during software installation and then verified by the program itself. If you want to purchase a licensed copy of Microsoft Office, you must change your product key.

Advice
- Before editing the registry, back it up. You may need to restore the registry.
- For a free alternative to Microsoft Office, consider the OpenOffice.org office suite.
- Create a system restore point before editing the registry. This will allow you to restore the operating system if you break the registry.
- Registry editor allows you to customize your computer to suit your requirements.
- Go back to step 4, right-click on the entry, which is a combination of numbers and letters, and select Export from the menu. Name the file and save it. Now, by double clicking on the file, you can restore the saved registry entry. This option is faster than a full system restore. Alternatively, you can edit this file in notepad and delete all entries except the two keys deleted in step 5. Now, by double-clicking on the file, you can restore the saved registry entry.
