Making lip balm can be quite simple and fun. The main advantage is that you know for sure what ingredients you are adding to it. You can also choose your favorite scent or create a new one that cannot be purchased in the store. There are many ways to create lip balm, but if you want a fruity balm, then the choice of ingredients is significantly reduced.
Ingredients
Using a liquid mixture
- 4 tablespoons (60 g) coconut oil
- 3 tablespoons (45 g) petroleum jelly or shea butter
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) beeswax, flakes, or granules (optional)
- Loose fruit mixture (such as Kool-Aid or Crystal Light)
Using Freeze-dried Fruit Blend
- 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 g) coconut oil
- 1/2 tablespoon (7.5 g) minced frozen fruit
- 1/2 to 1 tablespoon (2.5 to 5 g) bee flakes or granules (optional)
Using essential or aroma oils
- 2 tablespoons (30 g) beeswax, flakes or granules (optional)
- 4 tablespoons (60 g) coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) vitamin E oil
- ½ to 1 teaspoon (2.5 to 5 ml) aroma oil (optional)
- 5 to 10 drops of essential oil (optional)
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Using a Liquid Mix

Step 1. Combine the coconut oil and petroleum jelly in a microwave-safe bowl
If you don't like petroleum jelly, use shea butter instead. Petroleum jelly is an easier ingredient to use, but shea butter nourishes your lips better.

Step 2. Add 1 tablespoon (15 g) of beeswax for a firmer texture
For better melting, beeswax should be either flaked or granulated. If the beeswax of your choice comes in a lump, grate it on a cheese grater.

Step 3. Place the bowl in the microwave for one minute
All ingredients will melt and will be easier to mix later.

Step 4. Remove the bowl and stir the ingredients with a spoon until smooth
Make sure there are no lumps left. If you cannot break the lumps, then the mixture is not hot enough. Place the bowl back in the microwave for 30 seconds and then stir the ingredients again. Continue until the mixture is smooth.
Be careful when removing the bowl from the microwave as it may be hot

Step 5. If you want to make several different flavors, divide the mixture into several containers
For example, divide the mixture into two bowls if you want to make strawberry and cherry lip balms. When creating one flavor, work with the mixture in one bowl.

Step 6. Add the crumbly fruit mixture and make sure there are no clumps
The amount of blend you add depends on how rich your lip balm needs to be. Start with a pinch of powder, stir, and then add until you get the color you want.

Step 7. Pour the mixture into a clean, empty lip balm container using a spoon or mini spatula
Your new balm will harden quickly.

Step 8. Let the mixture cool slightly and then put it in the refrigerator for 1-2 hours
It will harden and take on the firm consistency of a regular lip balm.

Method 2 of 3: Using Freeze-dried Fruit Blend

Step 1. Grind the dry frozen fruit into a fine powder
You can use any frozen fruit for this. However, raspberries and strawberries will give the most beautiful color.
Grind the fruit using a coffee grinder or mortar and pestle

Step 2. Assemble the steamer
Fill the pot 2.5-5 cm with water and place the bowl in the pot. The bottom of the bowl should not touch the surface of the water. Try glassware as it distributes heat more evenly than metal.

Step 3. Add coconut oil and beeswax to a bowl (optional)
Beeswax is optional, but it will give the lip balm a thicker texture and make it less sticky. If you decide to use beeswax, try to get it in flakes or granules. In this form, it will melt faster and easier. If you can't find the wax in the flakes or granules, grate the block with a cheese grater.

Step 4. Heat the coconut oil and wax over medium heat until completely melted
Stir constantly to melt evenly. When heated, the color of the ingredients will change to a lighter color.

Step 5. Remove the bowl from the steamer and place it on a stable surface
Use oven mitts when doing this, as the bowl will be very hot.

Step 6. Mix the fruit mixture
Continue stirring until smooth. As a result, there should be no lumps or lumps. If you want to use different fruits, divide the mixture into separate containers and then add the chopped fruits.

Step 7. Spoon the mixture into empty, clean lip balm containers with a spoon or mini spatula
Work quickly as it hardens very quickly.

Step 8. Let the mixture cool, then refrigerate for 1-2 hours
In the refrigerator, the balm will finally harden.

Step 4. Remove the bowl from the pot and add the vitamin E oil to it

Step 5. Add oil to your aroma mixture and stir until smooth and smooth
The amount of oil you use is entirely up to you, but keep in mind that the scent will get richer as the mixture hardens. You can use a special scented oil for lip balms or a fragrance for making candy. Whatever you use, it should be oil based. Do not use water-based or alcohol-based products, otherwise the mixture will be mixed.
