In this article, we'll show you how to open Adobe Content Server Message (ACSM format) eBooks in Adobe Digital Editions on a Windows or macOS computer.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Windows
Step 1. Install the Adobe Digital Editions software
For this:
- Go to https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html in a web browser.
- Click "Windows" to download the installation file.
- When the file is downloaded, double-click it (it is located in the Downloads folder or another download folder).
- Follow the instructions on the screen to install the program.
Step 2. Press ⊞ Win + E
The Explorer window will open.
Step 3. Browse to the folder with the ACSM file
If you don't know where this file is located, enter its name (or just type *.acsm) in the search bar in the upper right corner, and then press ↵ Enter. The file will appear in the search results
Step 4. Right click on the ACSM file
A context menu will open.
Step 5. Select Open with
A new menu will open.
Step 6. Click on Adobe Digital Editions
The authorization page will open.
Step 7. Enter information about the seller of the book (optional)
If you do not have it or do not want to enter it, skip this step. Select the book seller from the drop-down menu and then enter your username and password.
Follow this step if you want to transfer DRM protected books between devices (maximum 6 devices)
Step 8. Check the box next to “I want to authorize my computer without an ID”
Do this only if you have not entered information about the seller of the book.
When prompted, click “Authorize”
Step 9. Click on Authorize
This button is in the lower right corner. The computer will be authorized; a window will open.
Step 10. Click on OK
The ACSM file opens in Adobe Digital Editions.
Method 2 of 2: macOS
Step 1. Go to https://www.adobe.com/solutions/ebook/digital-editions/download.html in a web browser
This site provides a free download of Adobe Digital Editions, which reads ACSM files on your Mac.
Step 2. Click Download Digital Edition Macintosh
The installation package (.dmg) will be downloaded to your computer.
Step 3. Double click on the installation package
This is the file you just downloaded.
You will find it in your Downloads folder
Step 4. Double click on the installation package
Its name is “Digital Editions 4.5 Installer.pkg” (version number may be different).
Step 5. Follow the instructions on the screen
Click “Continue” and walk through the row of windows to install the program.
At the end of the installation process, enter the administrator password
Step 6. Open Finder
You will find its icon in the dock at the bottom of the screen.
Step 7. Open the folder with the ACSM file
Step 8. Hold down the Control key and click on the file
A context menu will open.
Step 9. Click Open With
Step 10. Click on Adobe Digital Editions
The ACSM file opens in Adobe Digital Editions.
