The stove is one of the most useful things in Minecraft. If possible, you should create at least one stove before dark. With a stove in your home, you can start mining for iron.
Steps
Method 1 of 3: Create a stove
Step 1. Activate the workbench
Right click on the workbench. If you don't already have a workbench, skip to the beginners section.
In the console version, click on the cross or square on the controller
Step 2. Place the eight cobblestones in the crafting area of the workbench
Drag eight cobblestones to the workbench. Fill in all the cells except the central one, leave it blank.
In the console or mobile version, you need to select the oven recipe on the "Tools" tab. You still can't do without eight cobblestones
Step 3. Drag the fuser to the quick access slot
The stove should appear in the output cell. Drag it to one of the quick slots at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4. Place it on the ground
Select the furnace and right click on the block to install it. A block of gray stove should appear in front of you.
In the console version, blocks are set using the left trigger or the L2 button
Step 5. Right click on the oven to use it

Method 2 of 3: A New Beginning
Step 1. Break down trees to extract wood
Hold the hit button on the tree to smash it into wood.
Step 2. Turn the wood into planks
Open your inventory and drag the wood to the crafting area. The boards should appear in the output bins. Drag the boards to your inventory.

Step 3. Create a workbench
Fill all four slots of the crafting area with planks to create a crafting table. As before, drag the crafting table into your inventory to complete the creation.
In Minecraft Pocket Edition, you just need to select the block you need from the list. If you have all the necessary building materials, the required block will appear in your inventory
Step 4. Place the workbench on the ground
Move the workbench to one of your quick slots at the bottom of the screen. Left-click to pick up the workbench and then right-click to place it on the ground. From now on, you will spend most of the creation of items by right-clicking on the workbench. This will expand the crafting area to a 3x3 grid instead of a 2x2 grid.
- In the Pocket Edition, you need to click on the block in the quick slot and then click on the ground to install it.
- In the console version, use the D-pad or triggers (depending on the console) to switch between the quick-access slots. Install the block using the left trigger or L2 button.
Step 5. Turn some planks into sticks
If necessary, break up a few more trees into wood to create more planks out of it. Place one plank on top of another in the crafting area. Drag the sticks to your inventory.
Step 6. Create a pickaxe
Here's how to create your first tool:
- Right click on the workbench to open it.
- Place one stick in the center slot and the other in the slot below it.
- Fill the top row of cells with three boards.
- Drag the pickaxe from the output slot to the quick slot.
Step 7. Collect the cobblestones
Press the Ha shortcut slot for a pickaxe to pick it up. Find a rock (gray blocks) on the mountain slopes or dig a small tunnel downward. Hold the hit button on a stone block to break it into cobblestones.
Step 8. Place eight cobblestones in the workbench
Leave the center cell blank, but fill in the remaining eight. The cobblestones will be converted to a furnace.
Step 9. Place the oven in the desired location
Place your stove on the ground as you did with the workbench.
Method 3 of 3: Smelt in a Furnace
Step 1. Activate the oven
Right click on an installed furnace to open a workbench-like interface.
Step 2. Place items in the top slot to melt them
The stove has two slots where you can put items. Place the modifiable item in the top slot. Here are some examples of what you can create:
- Iron ore will turn into an iron ingot
- The sand will turn to glass
- Raw food will turn into fried food
- The clay will turn to brick
- The wood will turn into charcoal
- Cobblestone will turn to stone
Step 3. Add fuel
The stove will not work until you add fuel to warm it up. It must be placed in the second cell. Almost any combustible object can be used as fuel, but here are the most common options:
- Coal is the most efficient and affordable choice.
- Wood, although more widely available, burns quickly.
- As a compromise, place wood in the top slot to turn it into charcoal, then use the charcoal as fuel in the bottom slot.
Step 4. Wait until the end of the remelting process
During operation, the stove will consume fuel, and until it runs out, it will transform whatever you put in the top slot. The remelting result will appear in the cell on the right.
During the melting process, the stove will emit light. If the light goes out, then you either ran out of fuel or raw materials for smelting
Advice
- We recommend that you make several furnaces so that you can melt several things at the same time. The ovens remain functional even when stacked on top of each other, so you can make an entire wall of ovens if you like.
- You can steal a furnace from the blacksmith's shop in the village, or from an igloo (Minecraft 1.9+). It is fairly easy to build a stove and generally not worth the effort you go into finding one.
- You can break the furnace with a pickaxe. After that, pick up the small floating object to return it to your inventory for later installation.
- You can combine the oven and minecart into one item. Place it on the tracks like a normal minecart. The trolley with the stove will move on its own as long as the stove is loaded with fuel.
