If you are building a house or doing renovations and want to avoid unnecessary waste, then you may want to spend a little time and energy trying to figure out how to install plumbing in the bathroom yourself. You can do it!
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Installation
Step 1. Decide on the location of the plumbing in the bathroom
- You need to figure out where to place the bath or shower, sink and toilet. This will help you understand where to lay the water and waste pipes.
- You will have to make holes in the floor and walls in order to lay pipes to the plumbing, so it is very important to decide on a specific layout.
- Determine the location and carefully mark all the places in which you are going to cut the grooves (shafts) and drill holes.
- Check the accuracy of your markup again. "Measure seven times, cut once" - this proverb never loses its relevance.
- Be sure to cut all the grooves and drill all holes in advance. You will have to turn off the water, so all preparatory work should be done in advance to minimize the time when the water supply is cut off.
Step 2. Turn off the central water supply
Before starting any work on the plumbing and plumbing, you need to turn off the water in the bathroom. To do this, find the valves leading into the bath and close them
Step 3. Install water pipes
- For a standard bathroom, you will need to run five plumbing lines - cold and hot water for the shower / bathtub and sink, and cold water for the toilet.
- You can run water pipes inside the wall, or above the floor. Choose the appropriate option based on the location of the plumbing.
- Connect the hot and cold water channels to the washbasin and bathtub mixers with flexible hoses.
- If you are using copper pipes (rather than their modern plastic counterparts), sand the copper pipes, and then connect the water mains to the central water supply.
Step 4. Install drain pipes
To connect plumbing to the sewer, you will need pipes of different diameters. Today, pipes of various diameters are presented on the market. Common practice: use a pipe with a diameter of about 100 mm for a toilet, and 40-50 mm for a bathroom and a sink
Step 5. Install the toilet
A toilet usually has two parts: a bowl and a cistern. The installation should start with the installation of the bowl.
- Connect the corrugation (the pipe for connecting the toilet to the sewer) and the drain pipe, then slide the toilet into place, and mark the proposed fixing points.
- Move the toilet to the side, detach the corrugation and drill holes in the floor to secure the toilet.
- Slide the toilet back in and bolt it to the floor, then connect it to the drain.

Attach the cistern to the toilet.
- Connect the cistern and the corresponding water pipe, dig in this connection.
Step 6. Install the sink
First you need to try it on to the installation site.
- Mark the place where the sink is attached to the wall, drill the necessary holes and install the sink using brackets, screws and dowels.
- Connect hot and cold water pipes to the sink. Then install the mixer and siphon.
- Connect the outlet pipe of the sink to the drain, seal the connection with sealant.
Step 7. Install the bath / shower
- Delineate the outline of the tub to help determine the path for the drain pipes.
- Connect the bath / shower to the drain, connect the hot and cold water pipes.
- Seal all pipe connections.
- Make sure the sink is horizontal (use a building level).
Method 2 of 2: Plumbing Maintenance
Step 1. If the toilet is clogged, use a plunger
- Even if all the plumbing work is perfect, you may still have some problems in the future.
- To clean the toilet, you need to press the plunger against the hole and move it up and down.
- If the plunger does not help, you can resort to using a special flexible cable. It consists of a wire wound in a spiral, with a handle on one side, and a special spiral tip on the other side, which removes blockages.
Step 2. Cleaning the sink with a plunger or cable
- If the sink is clogged, you can use a plunger or cable.
- You can also clean the siphon, which is located directly under the drain hole of the sink or sink. To do this, unscrew the bottom of the siphon (a special key may be required) and clean the siphon with a hard wire hook or cable.
- If the plunger or cable does not help, disconnect the pipe with a wrench and wash it with a special detergent.
Step 3. Use a hose to clean the floor drain
- Remove the filter from the drain and insert the hose into it as deep as possible.
- The gap between the hose and the hole must be plugged with rags.
- Open the tap to the full, turn it off after a while.
- Continue turning on and off until water flows freely through the hose.
