This article will show you how to make a mosquito trap out of a plastic bottle. Ingredients are enough for one trap for 10-14 days. You can place multiple traps around your home or property.
Ingredients
- 200 milliliters of water
- 50 g brown sugar
- 1 gram yeast
Steps
Part 1 of 4: Cut the bottle

Step 1. Put 200 ml of water into a bottle

Step 2. Measure the distance from the water level to the top of the bottle

Step 3. Divide your measurement by two and subtract 3 cm (1 inch)

Step 4. Measure the distance from the top of the bottle down to this distance and make a mark

Step 5. Make three or four points around the bottle, then complete the circle
This will be your cutting guideline.

Step 6. Cut carefully along the guide line until the bottle is in two pieces

Step 7. Save both parts of the bottle
Part 2 of 4: Fill the Bottle with Chemicals

Step 1. Mix 50 grams of brown sugar with 200 milliliters of hot water
Let the mixture cool.

Step 2. Pour the mixture into the bottom of the plastic bottle

Step 3. Add 1 gram of yeast, but do not mix
This will produce carbon dioxide.
Part 3 of 4: Collect the bottle

Step 1. Flip the top of the plastic bottle over and place it on the bottom of the bottle
It will turn upside down.

Step 2. Gently push the top inward until the cut edges are aligned
At this point, the top of the bottle should be well above the water level. If not, pour out some of the solution so that the adult mosquito can fly and not drown in the liquid.

Step 3. Secure the edges of the cut with three or four pieces of duct tape
Part 4 of 4: Chemical Substitution

Step 1. Disassemble the bottle after 10-14 days

Step 2. Wash the bottle halves

Step 3. Fill with fresh chemicals and assemble the trap
Advice
- Use a lighter to gently melt cut edges for a more finished look and less hazardous edges.
- Place the bottle near windows or where there is good circulation of fresh air.
