Need to starch the collar on your favorite shirt, but you don’t know how to do it using starch? Instead of rushing to the store, put your car keys aside and look around at your belongings, homemade products that can make your clothes look crisp and sturdy, if not better.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Collect the ingredients

Step 1. Find a box of cornstarch
It is the main and key component of the spray. For best results, use a new box of starch. If the box was in the fridge or mixed with other odorous foods, your cornstarch may have absorbed the smell.

Step 2. Take a bottle of distilled water
Any water will not be suitable for this, because it's tough and you won't end up with crispy, starched clothes.

Step 3. Try adding some fresh-smelling herbs
Only add them if you have fresh sprigs of lavender or rosemary and want extra flavor. Otherwise, your starch spray should only be distilled water and cornstarch.

Step 4. Locate empty spray and adjustable nozzle bottles
You will most likely want to spray the starch evenly over your clothes with a homemade spray bottle. So make sure the nozzle is either adjustable or that the spray actually comes out evenly.
Method 2 of 2: Make a starch spray

Step 1. Add 1 to 3 tbsp
cornstarch into an empty spray bottle. The amount of cornstarch will vary depending on how much water your bottle can hold. The basic rule is 1 tbsp. starch in 1 glass of water.

Step 2. Pour water into a spray bottle, taking into account the amount of cornstarch
For example, if you added 2 tbsp. cornstarch, you should put 2 cups of distilled water in a spray bottle.

Step 3. Add some sprigs of herbs
This is not necessary, but they will fill the solution with a lovely, light scent.

Step 4. Replace bottle cap with a spray bottle, tighten well and shake vigorously
If you want the cornstarch to completely dissolve in the water, shake the bottle for a few seconds.
Advice
- Shake the bottle several times before each use. Cornstarch can settle to the bottom of the bottle between uses, so stir and dissolve the ingredients well.
- Update this recipe every month to avoid bacterial growth.
- Store in a cool, dry place.
