Baths lose their color over the years. Fiberglass bathtubs scratch and turn yellow, cast iron bathtubs rust and chip. Regardless of what kind of bath you have, you can save money by painting it instead of buying a new one.
Steps

Step 1. Prepare the bathtub for painting by removing the old layer with a spatula, do not forget to remove the drain cover

Step 2. Protect the areas that you do not want to damage while painting the bath
These can be pipes or tiles around the tub. You can protect the walls with duct tape and special paper, lay a towel on the floor.

Step 3. Put on gloves and goggles

Step 4. Finish cleaning the fiberglass or porcelain tub with a strong cleaner such as trisodium phosphate and a special brush

Step 5. Rinse the tub with cold water

Step 6. Let it dry

Step 7. Sand the surface of the tub with 150-grit paper until it feels gritty to the touch
Dry the tub with a piece of cloth.

Step 8. Paint your fiberglass bathtub with acrylic latex spray paint
- Keep the spray can 20 cm from the bath while spraying paint.
- Spray the can slowly from side to side while painting the tub so that the paint is evenly coated.
- Let the paint dry for 6 hours.

Step 9. Paint the fiberglass bathtub with epoxy paint, using the same method as with latex paint
Wait at least 8 hours before using the bathroom.
Method 1 of 1: Painting cast iron bathtubs

Step 1. Remove the alkaline emulsifier from the bath surface before painting the cast iron bath

Step 2. Apply a citric acid-based detergent to the surface of the bathtub to neutralize the emulsifier

Step 3. Rinse and dry the bath
Wipe it clean with a cloth dampened with denatured alcohol.

Step 4. Putty the chips and scratches on the fiberglass
When it hardens, sand it with 36 grit sandpaper and then smooth out all with 80 grit sandpaper.

Step 5. Wipe everything with a cloth
You can spray paint your cast iron bathroom using an oil-based rust resistant primer. The primer will ensure that the paint adheres precisely and will prevent the bath from rusting.

Step 6. While painting the bath, let the first coat dry for 4 hours

Step 7. Repeat the wet sanding procedure and wipe the tub clean

Step 8. Paint the bathtub with the oil-based enamel spray of your choice
Let the paint dry completely.

Step 9. Take a wet piece of 220 grit sandpaper
Gently work the surface of the tub until it feels smooth to the touch.
