Advice

  • Make sure to use Teflon tape and not plain tow. Teflon tape is much better, but more expensive.
  • If your showerhead twists off easily, wrap the joint with marine mastic or white lithium and let it sit for an hour or longer. Try not to overtighten the head! You can break the connection on the sprayer, or worse, on the pipe.
  • If you don't want to change your shower head, consider repairing the leak with special products. Resins that harden easily and seal leaks in 30 seconds are a quick fix.
  • Another option, if the nozzle does not scroll, is to replace the entire shower hose. Usually, a new 6 "(15 cm) spray can be purchased from your local hardware store. Follow the instructions on the package to unscrew the old nozzle and then install the new one. Be sure to use Teflon tape or lubricant on the pipe threads. Then screw the new shower head onto new hose Check for leaks.

Warnings

  • Start with no more than 2 skeins of ribbon. Using more tape can deform the joint and you will have to wash the ceiling immediately after checking!
  • Do not tighten the connection, you risk breaking the tip or scratching it.
  • This article only covers a leak in the shower head connection, not a possible leak from the faucet or the shower head itself.
