There are many different factors that cause dry skin, such as diet, weather, humidity, showering technique. Dry skin is especially common among older people, especially women over 65. Preventing and treating dry skin will help you look younger and healthier.
Step 1. Use hand lotion or cream often
Keep a bottle of hand lotion or hand cream next to your sink in your bathroom and kitchen. Apply to skin after each hand wash.
Step 2. Wear gloves in cold weather
Hands are one of the most exposed parts of the body and deserve adequate protection. Wear gloves in cold weather, especially if you are involved in outdoor sports such as jogging or cycling.
Step 3. For chapped lips, use chapstick, petroleum jelly, or lip balm
Again, dry lips are common in cold weather. You can apply petroleum jelly to your lips before going outside.
Note: Lip balms are generally considered addictive. While regular use of chapstick does not lead to physical dependence, as lips are usually a very sensitive part of the body, lip balm can be psychologically addictive
Step 4. Replace the wash brush with a cloth washcloth
The soft cloth glove is very effective in cleansing the skin and is much easier for the skin to bear.
Step 5. Avoid the following mistakes when showering or bathing
- Excessively hot water, while relaxing, removes essential oils from the skin. The water temperature should be reasonable.
- Avoid taking a bubble bath too often, as the soap in the bubble bath can wipe the natural protective oil from your skin.
- Shave downwards, not upwards, in other words, shave in the direction of hair growth, not against it. Use a shaving gel with natural moisturizers like aloe instead of products that contain alcohol.
- Blot your skin instead of rubbing after bathing.
Step 6. Use common home remedies
- Olive oil. A thin layer of olive oil underneath a moisturizer can bring in a small replenishment of the fat and protective amino acids your skin needs.
- Honey. Apply a thin layer of honey to your lips before bed. Honey can also be used on chapped elbows and rough heels. For some people, honey is very helpful.
- Sugar and vegetable oil. Mix equal parts brown sugar and any vegetable oil for an economical, highly effective skin scrub. Add a tablespoon of honey and a few drops of lemon for additional nutrients.
- Aloe vera. Purchase an aloe plant and place it in a sunny location. Tear off an aloe leaf once a week and apply a layer of juice to the skin for 15 to 30 minutes.
Step 7. Use yogurt, papaya and pumpkin
Along with many other dairy products and fruits / vegetables, yogurt, papaya and pumpkin can be incredibly effective exfoliants when combined with several key ingredients when applied to the face and body as a mask. Greek yogurt in particular is an excellent exfoliant. Here are some tips from Ilona Peknikova, director of a famous New York spa:
- Greek Yogurt & Papaya Enzyme Conditioning Face & Neck Mask: Mix 1/2 cup Greek yogurt with 3 tablespoons papaya puree. Apply to face or body and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes.
- Pumpkin and Cinnamon Face and Body Mask: Combine a jar of pumpkin mixture and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Apply to face or body and leave on for 15 to 30 minutes.
Step 8. Remember that we are what we eat, so eat right
A diet rich in vitamin C, magnesium, essential fatty acids, and beta-carotene will help provide your skin with the necessary protective agents. Include dark chocolate, fatty fish, carrots, and fruits like mangoes and oranges in your diet.
- You can also use shea butter lotion or cream.
- Consider getting a humidifier if you find it difficult to regularly care for dry skin. Dry skin is often caused by dry air in the home.
- Don't scratch your skin; if her condition worsens, see a dermatologist.
- Excessively dry skin that appears regularly can be a symptom of diabetes, malnutrition, or hypothyroidism. If you feel that your skin is too dry or even painful, and you experience significant discomfort, see your doctor.
