Method 1 of 2: Calm your dog down at home
Step 1. Keep your dog warm
If you have a heater or fireplace, place a quilt or patchwork quilt and pillow next to it. Place your pet on a blanket and rest its head on a pillow. Pet your dog.
Step 2. Prepare her favorite food
If she wants to eat, make her a burger without the contents and feed the dog.
Don't feed your pet if it doesn't want to eat (or force drink when it doesn't want to). The digestive system has already shut down. Food / water will complicate the condition of the dog and cause unnecessary pain
Step 3. Lie next to your dog and speak to her in a low, gentle voice
Tell her that everything is fine and that she will go to a good place with delicious food, fresh, cold water and many friends.
Step 4. Give your beloved pet one last hug before saying goodbye for the last time
Step 5. If you suddenly start crying, tell yourself that everything will be fine
Hug her again, but not too tightly. You don't want to hurt her.
Step 6. When she takes the last breath of her life, say goodbye for the last time and remember all the good things that you had with her
Remember Dr. Seuss's words: “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it was. " Be glad that fate brought you together with such a wonderful dog, and do not cry over the fact that she left.
Step 7. If you want, serve the all-night vigil
You may want to light a candle or pray.
Step 8. If you like, bury her the next morning in your backyard
Bury her behind a tree or in a place that you clearly remember. It will be nice if you set up a small garden in her honor, so you can honor her memory. A few colors and a stone or wooden plaque with the inscription "In memory of …" or something similar is enough. This will help you remember her.
Method 2 of 2: Calming your dog down at the vet's office
Step 1. If your dog is suffering severely, you can take him to the vet and euthanize
Be aware that dogs may be careful to hide their pain and not show it.
Step 2: Arrange with your veterinarian to prepare a quiet room and bring your dog's blanket or bedding with you to place your pet on its familiar surface rather than on a cold iron table
Step 3. Stay with your dog and groom him, whisper sweet words to him while the vet prepares for the operation
You will be asked to sign a consent form.
Step 4. Calm your dog down in the process
The doctor will probably inject the dog with a tranquilizer first, and then a drug that will stop its heart. It will take a couple of seconds and your pet will not feel any pain.
Step 5. Give yourself time
Once your dog leaves this world, it will probably take some time for you to say goodbye to her, as if you were saying goodbye to a person. The soul of your pet has already flown away into the distance over the rainbow bridge, but it is very important to say the last goodbye to the body of your beloved dog.
Step 6. Don't hold back your emotions
Your veterinarian will be ready for any reaction, so there is no need to endure.
Step 7. Take care of your own peace of mind
Most veterinarians offer cremation for dogs. For an additional fee, you can get an urn with your dog's remains after cremation.
