Boats on Minecraft are used as an element or vehicle. They can be used to traverse a large section of water, but they break easily if run aground. They are easy to make, and this article will show you how.

Method 1 of 2: Building a boat
Step 1. Collect five planks from any type of wood
Planks can be crafted from trees (wood can also be found in abandoned mines or in NPC villages).
Step 2. Stack the boards into the crafting grid
Lay the wood as follows:
- Place three wooden planks across the bottom three slots of the crafting grid.
- Place one board in the center left slot.
- Place the remaining boards in the center right slot.
- All other slots must be empty.
Step 3. Build a boat
To move to the inventory, right-click on it or drag the mouse.
Method 2 of 2: Launching the Boat
Step 1. While holding the boat, right-click on the water
The boat will be launched.
To place the boat on the ground, also right-click. The boat can move on the ground, but extremely slowly
Step 2. Board the boat
You can do it in any direction, also from under it, while diving.
Advice
- Speed effects can make the boat move faster.
- If you move the boat through the snow, it will melt.
- Boats are solid blocks that can be placed on players, mobs, and other boats. Other players, boats and mobs can also be placed on your boat.
- Boats move with the current or under the control of the player.
Warnings
- The boat can be put in lava, but do not try to swim on it. The boat will fall apart and your character will fall into the lava.
- When a boat runs aground, it falls apart into planks and sticks. Use this wood to make a wooden ax or pickaxe. Unfortunately, boats fall apart very easily, especially in high speed crashes or collisions.
