How to hide photos on Facebook (with pictures)

This article will show you how to hide your photos and some albums from Facebook.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: How to hide a photo from a timeline

On a mobile device

Step 1. Open the Facebook app

This is a dark blue app with a white "f" inside. If you are already signed in, you will find yourself in your news feed.

Otherwise, enter your email address (or phone number) and password

Step 2. Tap ☰ in the lower right (iPhone) or upper right (Android) corner of the screen

Step 3. Click on your name at the top of the menu

This will take you to your profile page.

Step 4. Scroll down to the photo you want to hide and tap on

This icon is in the upper right corner of the photo post. After that, a drop-down menu will appear on the screen.

Step 5. Click Hide from your timeline

This is one of the options in the dropdown menu.

Step 6. Click Confirm Action

After that, the photo will be hidden from the chronicle, but it can still be seen in the album.

On the computer

Step 1. Go to Facebook site

Enter https://www.facebook.com into the address bar of your browser. If you are already signed in, you will find yourself in your news feed.

Otherwise, enter your email address (or phone number) and password

Step 2. Click on your name at the top right of the page

Click on it to go to your profile.

Step 3. Scroll down to the photo you want to hide and tap on

This button should be in the upper right corner of the post with a photo.

Step 4. Click Hide from Timeline

It's in the middle of the dropdown menu.

Step 5. Confirm the action by clicking the Hide button

After that, the photo will be hidden from your chronicle, but you can still see it in your album.

Method 2 of 2: Hide Photos and Albums

On a mobile device

Step 1. Not all files can be hidden

You can hide individual photos that are in permanent Facebook albums (like Albums and Phone Downloaded), as well as custom albums. Photos stored in custom albums and permanent Facebook albums cannot be hidden.

Albums cannot be hidden in the Facebook iPad app

Step 2. Open the Facebook app

This is a dark blue app with a white "f" inside. If you are already signed in, you will find yourself in your news feed.

Otherwise, enter your email address (or phone number) and password

Step 3. Tap ☰ in the lower right (iPhone) or upper right (Android) corner of the screen

Step 4. Click on your name at the top of the menu

This will take you to your profile page.

Step 5. Scroll down and tap on Photos

This tab is one of the options below your profile picture.

Step 6. Click the Albums tab at the top of the screen

Step 7. Hide the custom album

To do this, do the following:

• click on the custom album you want to hide;
• touch … (iPhone) or ⋮ (Android);
• click Edit;
• choose Only me;

• click Ready.

  

  Step 8. Hide the photo in the permanent album

  To do this, do the following:

  • click on the built-in album;
  • click on the photo you want to hide;
  • touch … (iPhone) or ⋮ (Android);
  • Press Change privacy settings;
  • click Yet, and then Only me;

  • click Ready.

    On the computer

    Step 1. Not all files can be hidden

    • scroll down to the album;
    • click on the privacy icon under the album;

    • choose Just me.

      

      Step 7. Hide the photo in the permanent album

      To do this, do the following:

      • click on the built-in album;
      • click on the photo you want to hide;
      • click on the privacy icon under your name;

      • choose Just me.
