In this article, we'll show you how to increase the resolution of a photo on a Windows computer and macOS. Increasing the resolution increases the number of pixels per inch, which improves the quality of the printed image.
Steps
Step 1. Create a copy of the photo
Edit the copy, because if you have to reduce the resolution, the quality of the original will decrease. Therefore, the copy will allow you to return to the original image without degrading the quality.
Step 2. Open a copy of the photo in a graphic editor
For example, open a copy in Photoshop or Gimp.
Step 3. Open the Image menu in Photoshop
In another graphical editor, this menu may be called differently. In any case, look for the "Image Size" or "Size" option in the menu.
Step 4. Click Image Size
Step 5. Uncheck the "Resampling" box (if there is such an option)
In this case, the number of pixels will not decrease.
Step 6. Enter the desired resolution in the "Resolution" line
If you see a Pixels / Inch option, check the box next to it to measure everything in pixels per inch.
If you change the resolution, the width and height of the photo will also change, because only the resolution changes, not the number of pixels (the number of pixels only changes when the image is resized)
Step 7. Click on OK
Now the photo can be printed at a higher resolution.
If you reduce the resolution of this photo, you can print it at a larger size, but the resolution will decrease (compared to the original)
Step 8. Save the file
Press Ctrl + S or ⌘ Command + S.
