This article will show you how to turn a color image into a sketch using Adobe Photoshop.
Steps
Part 1 of 6: How to Prepare the Image

Step 1. Open the image in Photoshop
Double click on the blue letter icon " Ps"then select File in the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Open… and select an image.
For best results, it is best to choose high-contrast images

Step 2. Click Layers on the menu bar

Step 3. Click Duplicate Layer … in the dropdown menu, then click OK.
Part 2 of 6: How to add shadows

Step 1. Select Background copy in the Layers window on the right side of the screen

Step 2. Click Image on the menu bar

Step 3. Select Adjustments from the drop-down menu

Step 4. Select Inversion from the drop-down menu

Step 5. Click Filter on the menu bar

Step 6. Select Convert for Smart Filters in the dropdown menu, then click OK.

Step 7. Click Filter on the menu bar

Step 8. Select Blur from the drop-down menu

Step 9. Select Gaussian Blur… from the dropdown menu

Step 10. Enter a value of 30 in the Radius: field and click OK

Step 11. Click "Normal" in the Blending Modes menu of the Layers window

Step 12. Select Color Dodge
Part 3 of 6: How to make an image black and white

Step 1. Click the Create New Adjustment Layer or Fill Layer icon
The semi-filled circle is at the bottom of the tab Layers.

Step 2. Select Black & White…

Step 3. Click ⏩ in the upper right corner of the dialog box to close the window

Step 4. Click Select on the menu bar, then select Everything.

Step 5. Click Edit on the menu bar, then select Copy the combined data.

Step 6. Click Edit on the menu bar, then select Insert.
Part 4 of 6: How to add paths

Step 1. Click Filter on the menu bar, then select Gallery of filters….

Step 2. Select the "Styling" folder

Step 3. Select Glow Edges

Step 4. Move the Edge Width slider all the way to the left
It's on the right side of the window.

Step 5. Place the Edge Brightness slider in the center

Step 6. Move the Softening slider all the way to the right

Step 7. Click OK

Step 8. Click Image on the menu bar

Step 9. Select Adjustments from the drop-down menu

Step 10. Select Inversion from the drop-down menu

Step 11. Click "Normal" in the Blending Modes menu of the Layers window

Step 12. Select Multiply

Step 13. Select the "Opacity:" field in the upper right corner of the Layers window

Step 14. Set the Opacity to 60%
Part 5 of 6: How to add details

Step 1. Press Selection on the menu bar, then select Everything.

Step 2. Click Edit on the menu bar, then select Copy the combined data.

Step 3. Click Edit on the menu bar, then select Insert.

Step 4. Click Filter on the menu bar, then select Gallery of filters….
- Not choose item "Filter Gallery" at the top of the dropdown menu "Filter", otherwise the last used filter from the Filter Gallery will be applied.

Step 5. Select the "Strokes" folder

Step 6. Select Sumi-e

Step 7. Change the stroke parameters
Set Stroke Width to 3, Pressure to 2 and Contrast to 2.

Step 8. Click OK

Step 9. Click "Normal" in the Blending Modes menu of the Layers window

Step 10. Select Multiply

Step 11. Select the "Opacity:" field in the upper right corner of the Layers window

Step 12. Set the Opacity to 50%
Part 6 of 6: How to add paper texture

Step 1. Click Layers on the menu bar

Step 2. Select New … in the dropdown menu, then select Layer….

Step 3. Click on the "Mode:" drop-down menu and select Multiply

Step 4. Click OK

Step 5. Press the key combination Ctrl + ← Backspace (PC) or ⌘ + Delete (Mac).
This will fill the layer with a white background color.

Step 6. Click Filter on the menu bar, then select Gallery of filters….
- Not choose item "Filter Gallery" at the top of the dropdown menu "Filter", otherwise the last used filter from the Filter Gallery will be applied.

Step 7. Select the "Texture" folder

Step 8. Select Texturizer

Step 9. Select Limestone in the dropdown menu "Texture:".
It's on the right side of the window.

Step 10. Set the Relief parameter to 12 and click OK

Step 11. Select the "Opacity:" field in the upper right corner of the Layers window

Step 12. Set the Opacity to 40%

Step 13. Save the image
Click on File in the menu bar and select Save as….
Enter the file name and click Save.
