Method 1 of 1: How to write your own review

Step 1. Read a chapter of the book

Step 2. Retell for yourself what you read in your own words
Just talk to yourself as if you were telling your friend about it.

Step 3. Describe how you feel about storytelling events?

Step 4. If you were asked to write a review at school, stick to the topic the teacher gave you

Step 5. Start writing
Write down your thoughts from steps two and three.

Step 6. What to look for
- Emotions - Why did this chapter make you feel anxious?
- Characters - who is involved and why?
- Speech style - what is so special about the author's choice of words? What literary techniques did the author use, and how did they influence your perception of the plot, characters, scenes?
- What else did you find interesting? What discouraged you? What didn't you like?

Step 7. If you were asked to write a review at school, re-read your work after completion
Ask someone to check your essay for errors.

Step 8. When you have read the book to the end, write a review about it
Advice
- Write not only about the events, but also about the experiences of the characters.
- If you are typing a review on a computer, turn off the Internet and do not be distracted by entertainment.
- Don't try to write a review of large portions of the book. Better to read one small chapter or half of a large chapter and write a review about it.
- Work in a quiet environment without external distractions.
- To get ready to write, practice freewriting, brainstorming, or mind mapping. These techniques will help you collect your thoughts.
- Take notes and use markers to highlight what's important.
